ok, normally I dislike the politics of ripping of content of the original game just to sell them very soon after for making extra cash.
But because the main game was relatively cheap, I´m surely will be buying this DLC! Hope there are also some additional tweaks to the AI with those new units available....

Yes, in general DLC's that are released so quickly post release leave a bad taste... Especially when the content was at least partly included in the base download.

However, given the asking price of Warlock, it doesn't bother me. This looks like a fun addition (the Koatl training trait looks quite powerful- I'm interested to see how it's implemented)! Did anyone notice point costs anywhere?

That's fine. Is it likely that in future will be added to the full race? That's my dream I saw a race of amphibians who could build a city on the water.

I cannot abide such DLC - it does not sit well with me and I refuse to obtain them.

When content is split from an original title to make an extra purchasable item, it feels like a cash grab. When it happens on a multiplayer game (like Warlock is supposed to become), it leaves me quite disgruntled indeed, because the developers must choose to either not let the players with the extra content use it in multiplayer, or let the players who did not buy it use it in order to maintain fairness.

I'm not terribly thrilled about extra-units DLC either. The good news is, I don't need it (none of us do), and I'll happily resume playing Warlock without it.

... well, option B seems pretty un-objectionable to me. If only one player buys it everyone gets to use it? Several developers have done so: Coffee Stain Studios (DLC maps/weapons, anyone could join any hosted map) and Kerberos Studios (Anyone could join a DLC scenario) for example. Maybe wait and see what Ino-Co does?

Worst thing with DLC is that the community becomes divided and you can't really obtain information on the right basis from other players on the forum unless the DLC used are reported in the post. I also get confused by all the DLC and for several games I have bought the same DLC/Expansion but in different compilations. It's sometimes feels that the confusion itself is a planned business model. :) It's quite irritating.

The other big issue I have experianced, especially with Civilization 5 are that it's really difficult to get the right mod. Most often I have no idea what DLC I need or for that matter what DLC I already own. So I have stopped playing mods on Civilization 5. This will probably (hopefully) not be a problem with Warlock.

On the other hand if this method of business goes well with game producers then I guess it's ok. We all want a paycheck at the end of the month.

Oh and I probably will buy all DLC even if I dislike this method. Though it would be easier to keep track of bigger expansions.

Indeed Powerslave, indeed.

When dealing with a game with multiplayer, the best method possible is a full blown expansion pack like Civilization 4 did. If both players have it, they can play with it, if not they both have to play without it - and there is a clear line between the two groups.

To me the best DLC's brings new content to the game while also making the core game better. I wonder if having DLC is to soon. Their seems to be many issues with the core game that could be improved on. However if these improvments were to be inculded in the downloads, that would be killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

Weird how Gamersgate has it for sale already yet Steam does not. Especially considering it requires Steam to play.

Honestly I like the micro content releases Paradox does. Coming from the Herats of Iron series where there is tons of sprites packs and expansions I prefer it. Compared to paying $30-40 for the game then $20-40 for expansions. Especially Electronic Arts games, they are the worst because their games rarely go down for price and every expansion is as much as the first game. Nevermind console sports games that changed yearly the only difference being stats.

So ya I will happily throw $3 on the expansion and any future ones as well.

This game, and for that matter a few other paradox games I could mention, seem to me to be really greedy with the DLC because it's pretty near the "horse armor" level of pointlessness. You want me to pay a significant portion of the game's cost in order to unlock... a perk? This isn't something that significantly extends the lifespan of the game. In a game that has mods, I probably wouldn't download something on that level for free. If you're going to be selling DLC it needs to be... a new race. A campain. Something like that. Not, like, one guy. This costs over 10% what the game itself does, and adds in... less than 1% more content. That's just not a good price.

Let us not forget, Paradox gacve us such a WONDERFUL game, no bugs, for such a cheap price.
Oh, there's bugs. There's a reason that support forum is locked. ;)

Yes, in general things called DLC lack a similar content-to-price ratio that a base game has. I'm still not sure why there is a large portion of the market that buys the horse armor/appearance stuff... but they do. Frankly, if Warlock was a $40 dollar release I wouldn't be likely to buy it- I would have already paid for a full game, thank you.

But for a $20 game that I've enjoyed as much as Warlock, I feel $3 more for a small slice of extra stuff is fair. I will enjoy the addition, and still feel like I got the game while it was on sale.
