So one day I'm sitting playing Stellaris when I realized something. What's missing is a modern world title (not HOI IV) but a game set in the information era (now) and any country is playable. So basically a geopolitical simulator. Do realize that this is a game genre that has been lightly caressed by only a couple games (like two if I remember correctly). The potential gameplay implications are almost limitless, and can gain you a couple chests of awards and monies in the process.
Here are some gameplay mechanics I have in mind for the game:
-Dynamic diplomacy (form alliances that can either plunge a world into chaos or hold and uneasy peace)
-All Government types (Theocracy,Dictatorship, Republic,Democracy, etc.)
-Expansive tech tree that you go through in era's (Similar to Civ V's tech tree system but more detailed and unique depending on culture, state religion, Technological inferiority or supremacy compared to other countries)
-A compelling political system

-A compelling political system
- Start Civil wars in a bid to gain total control of your countries government. (Or create your own country in your image)
- Assassinate political rivals or other leaders
- Bribery
- Rigging election in your countries' or allies favor
- Falsely starting wars or even world wars in your own interest
- And So Much More!
- Better Presentation of battles and destruction they can cause
- Visual war damage
- The ability to economically Annihilate your rivals through destruction of anything of economic value or by blockade of ports and highways
- Massive military tech tree
- An unmeasurable amount of strategy one can invest into a war
- Guerrilla wars
- Independence wars
- Etc.
- A tech tree that goes through era's that unlock new buildings, decisions, Units, etc.
- Level of your technology you're in depends on whichever country you chose (poor, Rich)
- Completely researching technologies and decisions can unlock new possibilities for your country ( space agencies, creation of space stations, exploring and later colonizing other planets
- Becoming a superpower either through war or sheer economic and/or political might
- Laws
- Decisons
Dynamic Economy
- Realistic Stock market
- Trade
- Economic recession
- Another Great Depression
- Taxes
- GDP
