I went to war with one kingdom, and took over some of their land. I couldn't declare war again, because it automatically results in a truce, so I decided to attack their neighbor, which was also on my border as well. While I was fighting that kingdom, the kingdom I had a truce with joined the war against me. (Perhaps they were allies) After the war was concluded (I had won), I expected the truce of the other kingdom to be void, but it was still in affect. If a kingdom joins a war against me, shouldn't any truce I have with them be removed?

Seems like a weird way to get around truces.

a truce really applies to the attacker i.e. you can't attack someone for a second time while the truce is in place.
