Part XIV - All Roads Lead to Rome
11th Aug 1944 - Two Italian divisions in Ancona are routed by a mixed force of six Australian infantry and mechanized divisions.
Infantry gets equipped for upcoming urban fighting.
16th Aug 1944 - With Firenze secured without fight, the scene is prepared for the assault on Rome itself.
21st Aug 1944 - The battle of Rome begins. Eleven Australian divisions attack, outnumbering the defenders 3 to 1.
23rd Aug 1944 - Surrounded in their capitol, Italians fight with great ferocity, but the Australian veterans have much more experience in close combat.
25th Aug 1944 - After the battle, four Italian divisions (including the famous armored "Ariete" division) are destroyed. Australian casaulties rise to 3000, 1215 of them dead.
