I decided to dedicate a thread to just how stupid the AI can be, inspired by a game I've recently started. I started a (Vsemirna Vlast) game as Brandenburg, from the "A New World!" scenario. I thought it'd be interesting, as it starts with many historical concepts already in place (strong Muscow, Aragon-Castille PU, strong Ottomans, etc.) I thought it'd be cool to try and form Germany (to my surprise, I can't find the decision anywhere.) In the first couple of years I managed to do the following:
- leave the HRE (originally intended to be able to take stuff out of the empire, but I've since discovered that one, that province decision is nowhere to be found, two, even declaring war with the Nationalism CB will now drag in Austria, the HRE, and three, a good thing, I no longer get the infamy penalty for Unlawful Imperial Territory.)
- Ally with Lübeck (temporarily, they failed to honor our alliance), Bohemia (in a PU with Hungary) and Brunswick
- Annex Mecklenburg and take two provinces from Thuringia
- Vassalize Bremen (from the hard work of Bohemia)

Now to the "Stupid AI!" story I was talking about. So apparently, Bohemia had declared war on Austria (who was allied with Poland, who themselves lead a union with Lithuania and is extremely powerful- I'd given them military access but they'd already joined the war), and Hungary was dragging me into the war. I braced for impact with Poland, but my alliance with Bohemia was simply too valuable and it was a good opportunity to gain trust, so I accepted. I expected Poland to attack me, but they didn't. Instead, even though they risked a Bobemian invasion, Austria decided to invade me. They had went around Bohemia (they were HRE and thus had access through all of the HRE) and had taken Bremen along the way. They had taken a doomstack of over 40K troops (basically their entire army according to the ledger, risked annihilation at the hands of Bohemia, and invaded. I sent my army (around 20K) to run into Poland, who themselves attacked my army. It was a hopeless situation, I thought. But then, I saw an icon on the bottom-left of my screen. A peace offer from Austria. I thought it had to have been harsh, but no- it was white peace. I thought I'd just sacrifice my vassal to get this. Without hesitation, I accepted. I expected to lose my vassal- but I actually didn't. Austria instead demanded that Bremen annul treaties with the Hansa (it was modded out by Steppe Wolf, but the modmaker had forgotten to get rid of the treaties.) And that was it. If you have anything to want to add, post it here.

5.2 beta game as Portugal watched Burgundy attack England for calais English navy flat refused to intercept the Burgundy fleet landing and taking Ireland for them and insted threw thier entire army at Flanders and killed at the beach. Burguns get the warscore fairly high with the English army out of manpower and sitting on 2 regiments of mercs and..... give England thier entire treasury and gave up claims on calais sometimes i really dont understand the derp the ai has in diplomacy

Correct. I had to accept Austria's peace offer (if I didn't, they would occupy all of my provinces and I would be forced to accept any demands of theirs below 100 warscore), so since I wasn't the war leader (Bohemia was) a situation arised where my vassal (Bremen) was at war and I wasn't, meaning that Austria could annex them.

I was playing as Muscowy and took over ALL of Novgorod except for Kholm and Pskov because Lithuania and Riga took those provinces. As usual the AI started getting tons of rebels but I didn't worry because they were in Pskov which Riga owned. I started getting Pskov nationalist everywhere in the south/central Muscowy area and I noticed that Pskov was generating Nationalists, getting beaten away from Pskov by Riga and getting beaten up by Lithuania in the north and over into my provinces. Once I beat up the rebels the Golden Horde got Pskov rebels and they don't have nationalist spawning in my, or Lithuania's countries it was all spawning in Pskov. I would've relesed Pskov as a vassal in Novgorod but They had a CoT so I didn't want to lose it and because then we'd be getting patriots. This went on for 2 years and it still is going on.

I was playing as France and had Portugal as my ally against England. I occupied their mainland holdings and planned to just wait and drive their WE up until they accepted my offer of reclaiming my cores. England started landing armies in Portugal and occupying, so I sent a few armies down to clear the place up. By the time I got there, England had already had the southern half of Portugal. So, I defeated the English armies and started reclaiming Portuguese territory for them, and Portugal started rebuilding some armies. With two provinces left to reclaim, and no English armies or navy in sight, Portugal accepts England's offer of ceding their two southern territories. Pointless.

Not so much stupid AI as stupid game events. Just finished a war with Bohemia, crushing the HRE for the sixth time in thirty years. Two weeks after the peace treaty is signed, A Formal Request happens. I imagine the conversation went like this:

"Hey, I know we got off on a bad first six impressions, but I think we can be friends. Give me Tyrol. Now. If you don't... well, lets just say that your ENTIRE EMPIRE will feel a bit more rebellious. And you will have to spend a year repairing that hit to your internal stability. Your call."

I really hate that event. Such a waste of magistrates to remove HRE tags on every captured city.

It's 1650 or so in my current attempt at my first world conquest. Started as Castille, am 1 step from unifying the HRE (just need to get BB down and at peace), have an empire that owns/controls every western nation with 4+ provinces except GB. My army alone is upwards of 700 regimets not even counting my unions/vassals. Currently sitting at 99% ws vs full size Ming, heavily expanded Malacca, and fairly large Persia (waiting for infamy burn to end the wars) when 2pm Lan Na dows me for religious freedom for Moulmein which happens to have a garrison force 4x their army size.

Stupid ai is stupid...

When I played as Prussia, Russia would call me in to their war with Persia a few times. I agree, and bring along my tens of vassals (I am emperor, and passed the vassalage reform). So while I send 40k troops to the front, my vassals bring their entire armies (mostly around 10k-20k). They make it to the front too, and I have seen, on more than one occasion, ALL troops stationed on one province! Needless to say, the attrition would remove more than 75% of that force  .

I have also noticed the AI tends not to conclude peace unless the entire country is occupied first. In one of my games, Poland controls land in Eastern Europe and the northern Caucausus (There was a land connection, but one war with me broke that. Now both Bohemia and Hungary would occupy all of European Poland, yet because they cannot reach Eastern Poland, they just sit on Western territory for years until white peace  !

So yeah.

The Ottomans have an army twice the size of the Austrian one.

Austria only holds Egypt and Madagascar. They don't even have cores in their ancestral homeland any more.

So when I declare war, you would expect Austria to cave to Ottoman demands, right? HAH! Wrong!

They accepted a white peace.

The stupid. It hurts.

I'm playing Britain, I own the entire Caribbean, North America to the US/Mexico border and India. Largest army in the world by far and enough troops in Britain to start a D-day attack on Europe.

My ally Netherlands who I'd supported and propped up the entire game calls me to war against Franco-Habsburg coalition.

Netherlands is blanketed with Troops to lift sieges. Austrian-Italy and Northern France are under siege. Franco-Habsburg Navy sank, full blockade in place. Majority of French troops destroyed - Netherlands released Brabant and cedes Antwerpen, Hainaut and Liege.

Le'rage. AI y u no wait for glorious victory??

Yeah, this is really the worst kind of AI stupidity. It's only because the AI can't use logic to predict the future outcome (your glorious victory) but rather has to use numbers available (current war score and capacity) to formulate its own odds of making a comeback. That situation really sucks.

I (Poland) am at war with Bohemia [OPM] and a quite big TO. I have 2 10,000 men armies, one made of cavalry and one of infantry. I want to finish first things first, so I lay siege to Bohemia with infantry (assault failed) and chase the Czech army with my cavalry. I think that Teutons (having a single 20,000 army) will get one of my cities, but I can live with this. However, they do something unexpected: instead of getting Warmia, Masovia or Danzig, they just march through the ennemy terrain, trying to lift the siege of ally's capital leaving nobody (literally '0' regiments) to protect their homeland.

Naturally, I wait till they are close to Bohemia, abandon the siege and march with my footmen army to cover the Order's lands with microarmies besieging everything in sight, while their army chases my cavalry regiments. Of course attrition has done its work, and soon they are destroyed my my horse army, having absolutely no province left to build new regiments. Soon most of their cities have the eagle banner above them and the Grand Master is forced to pay his treasury (undiminished by last minute building programs) and give me some key provinces, so they will be vasalised next war. Oh, and before that my jobless horse army finished besieging and annexing Prage itself

This was extremely stupid from the Teutons, but nobody can say that they were ruthless b___tards in this timeline. Marching with the entire army half of Europe to save an ally is just the epitome of chivalry (I think I will leave them as perpetual vassals this game) :D
