I didn't read through all 10 pages of this so apologies if anything is repeated.
Played through the Demo till it booted me due to time limit / turn limit (I guess.) A few observations (playing as Rome):
The barbarian factions did nothing. No expansion, barely any troops and no real fighting amongst themselves. The 10/50 restriction on expansion is going to make trying to play one problematic (unless I'm missing something.)
Money was a little tight until I demanded tribute from the Averni (and a few others.) Since they were stuck in 1 province (each) and I didn't feel like taking the BB for annexing I went for tribute. 8-20 per month in gold! Far beyond their income (hell, or mine for that matter.) WAD? I realise it eventually runs out but that in itself seems like an exploit (since you get an auto CB on the country that stops paying.)
Does culture / religion spread to the islands? Everywhere but disconnected provinces had no trouble converting.
Character system was fine but never gave that CK feel of nurturing a bloodline. I did have a female character assigned to one of the research spots (bug or WAD?) Daughter of one of the characters I believe.
Trade system / resource management was well done (and thank God no CoT's
.) Music added the appropriate flavor. Interface took a little while to get used to but wasn't bad.
Only odd thing that happened was in regards to the Alliance I had with Massilia (kept it the whole game.) At some point, even though I was still allied, the game no longer allowed me to move troops into or through his territory without manually asking for access (which worked.) Minor issue but /shrug.
Core2Quad with an NVidia 8800. Ran smooth, no CTD's or hardware issues. It seems a bit EU3ish for my personal tastes but I'm sure someone will work on some mods to change the flavor.
