(If a mod thinks this thread would better fit in the multiplayer section please move it)
So we already have a post your Empire thread showcasing everyone's feats mostly in the single player mode, so i thought it would be a good idea to show some screens and stories of Multiplayer Games.
As I, along with friends, just finished our first Grand Multiplayer Game, from 1444 to 1821, lasting from launch to this day, with about 80 hours of playtime together (roughly one 4-hour session a week from august to now). Participants were all from the french CanardPC community.
The world in 1821 :
Played countries, along with their fate were :
The 8 great powers :
1. Timurid => Mughals : Westernized early thanks to Brandenburg exile-strategy, Dominated the asian region until the end of the game, most powerful economic force and sizeable military force.
2. Sweden : Rather difficult start, was late to annex norway and denmark, but eventually rose as the most powerful european country as it gained lands in north germany, forcing brandenburg to exile. Gigantic manpower pool and high quality units.
3. France : Very rough beginnings and was reduced to a three province minor by a coalition war launched by burgundy. Eventually rose from the ashes and defeated burgundy thanks to fateful backstabs. Major economic power in europe and had a military almost on par with sweden.
4. Austria : Catalyzed the hate of most players in Europe as it practiced and very heavy handed policy within the HRE, preventing brandenburg and bavaria to grow envetually was embroiled in a permanent rivalry with Poland, which he defeated in the end, but was later repeatedly pounded to smithereens by Sweden. His only reliable ally in the end was the Mughal Empire and despite Austria being both the target, iniator and battlefield of many wars, and suffered probably the most defeats as a player, was still a truly relevant power during endgame, thanks to Mughal backing.
5. Lithuania(me !) : Allied Poland and Sweden early on to seize Novgorod and defeat Muscovy as he tried to claim it. Main muscle to the so-called Triumvirat alliance it eventually fell behind thanks to the poor administrative skills of its leader and technology issues. Lithuania eventually had to betray its faithful ally Poland not to become embroiled in a coalition war. Westernized in the late 1700s to keep up with the other powers and finally managed to stay a relevant military power at the end.
6. Vijayangar => Hindustan : Invited brandeburg to asia as it was forced to exile by both Austria and Sweden, and brougth the gift of technology to both Asian players. Remained under the yoke of the Mughals until the end and never had a real opportunity to fight them. He nonetheless was heavily involved in politics and manipulations of various players.
7. Ottoman : Spreading Islam as its main goal, was heavily involved in dubious colonization efforts across the seven seas for notoriety if not for income, the sun indeed never set on the ottoman empire. Never westernized and eventually fell back in tech, and its effort to spread islam to britain triggered an age of revolts that severely weaked the empire.
8. Portugal : Main colonizer, faithful ally of Spain, Portugal eventually fell in disgrace as a series of uprising and unrest in its colonies (some incited by France) destroyed the rich Portuguese empire.
The rest of the players who were all killed in action or left the game :
9. England : Player was not much involved in diplomacy and poorly managed internal affairs, suffered from continuous rebellions, didn't colonize until late game but avoided involvement in european wars and politics. Eventually left the game and was replaced with another player who could not salvage the country. Ottoman tried to convert it to islam during the end game, but most of the island was fed by Sweden to scotland, its vassal and ultimately integrated. The new player stayed as long as the country was humanly playable, and left before the last session. Still managed to have an interesting rivalry with Portugal towards the end.
10. Poland : Allied with Lithuania and Sweden to safeguard its eastern borders, it eventually grew very resentful against Austria, was abandonned tragically by both his allies when he was at the height of his power and glory. Player left after the betrayal.
11 . Brandenburg : Was forced to exile by his 2 bullies Sweden and Austria and eventually established a solid presence in Malaysia thanks to Hindustan backing. Player had to leave for RL reasons.
12. Spain : Player left thinking this MP game was illogical and didn't play like a wargame but rather a diplomacy game. Wrong expectations. Eventually replaced by several other players, but didn't really had a chance to shine, and eventually was abandoned in the mid-to-late game.
13. Burgundy : Burgundy once was the most powerful country in europe, and had successfuly started to colonize north america, but made too many enemies in the process and was eventually picked apart by coalition war. Player left at that point, but Burgundy then became the first independent nation of the Americas, where the kingdom placed its new capital and its existence severely halted the colonization efforts of France and Portugal.
14. Bavaria then Naples then England : Bullied by Austria which whom he had a love/hate relationship, Bavaria was eventually annexed by Austria. Player moved on to Naples but did not manage to seize Rome from the Ottomans, and eventually his country fell to rebels. He moved on to England where he met the same fate.
15. Morroco then Algiers then Spain : Player was kinda left behind as Morocco/Algiers was isolated diplomatically and geographically. Morocco was enventually conquered by portugal, and Algiers did not achieve anything of note. As Spain it quickly became the target and of legacy wars in answer to the previous player's actions. Player had to leave because connexion issues prevented him to play in good conditions
16. Savoy then Spain : Briefly participated in the games first as savoy then as spain, had to left for RL reasons.
17. Milan : Obliterated by its neighbors, Milan is but a footnote in history.
18. Muscovy : Attacked Lithuania to claim Novgorod in early game, but failed to have the Ottomans join the war, and was defeated by the Lithuanian Alliance. Left the game after that war for RL reasons.
19. Venice : Player did not attend more than one or two session, leaving a great void in italia, no replacement.
Players at game start :
The game culminated in a great war that would have been difficult to end, involving on one side Sweden, France and Lithuania, and on the other side Mughals, Hindustan, Austria, Ottoman Empire and Portugal. The reasons for the war were Sweden repeated attacks on Austria, that Mughals tried to repeal. Eventually France, and later Lithuania, would saw an opportunity to earn a few more province in the process. Lithuania joining caused Hindustan to join as well to balance the odds. Late in the war, ottomans attacked a break-away mameluks to reclaim their cores, but mameluks were allied with AI poland which was allied to me, so I became war leader and attacked Ottomans, effectively making them join the Mughals side of the great war, which Portugal joined as well.
The war was practically over after the battle of Kartli (moutain terrain, we were on the offense, it lasted years), thanks to clever encirclement tactics (we occupied all the surrounding provinces during the battle, and switched tired units for fresh units as the battle progressed, giving us a much needed edge considering the poor battle conditions. We couldn't afford to lose the battle because it would be the last thing people remembered and would be used to declare a victor and loser in this war
.
Austria could have turned the tables in this battle if he joined it, but he elected instead to invade France, with some 200k troops, payed by the Mughal Empire.
Europe during the last months of the game :
As Lithuania I failed my objective of having Lithuania being the biggest name on the map (Mughals outdid me by a small bit), but was overall satisfied with how things turned out for me. I was plagued with lack of administrative points till the end though, so my country was kinda poor and underdeveloped by 1821, despite its size.
It's sad so many players left during the game, as it unbalanced somewhat some parts of the world (for instance russia could have remained a major power, or in the worst case migrate to siberia and the hordes, limiting mughal dominance in asia) but in the end we were pretty satisfied with how things turned out, with 8 players sticking with the game to the end, and many interesting events.
We were playing with no rules at all (only asking for "fair play" from all players especially in cases of bugs), and overall it went great.

I don't know if many Grand Multiplayer games reached 1821 yet, but if you participated in one, please post your successes, failures and impressions
