This is more about the AI controlled Ottoman Empire. I'm quite proud of them
huqff4.jpg

Larger Version
Default settings, historical lucky nations
It's 1657. I'm the Hanseatic Republic. The monster Ottomans have colonies in India. Muscovy was on its way to forming Russia, then it collapsed due to rebels. Riga currently holds Novgorod. Bohemia blobbed early then Austria ate them. Austria was scary for a century or so. It had all of southern and central Germany. Then I formed a coalition of me, France, Britain, Brandenburg, and the Ottoman Empire and, after 500,000 casualties, broke them apart in. That was around 1560ish. France began to blob around then chewing up the then great power Castille, then took Austrian held France (roughly Burgundy). The Ottomans just finished off a war with Muscovy expanding even more northward. They're also in a PU with Kazan so Muscovy will be boxed in soon. I'm waiting the Turks return to the Baltic; they held Pomerania for a few decades back in the 1400s. Since only France's army rivals theirs (Turks have slightly less than 200k but the war just ended. France 168K. Me: 84K, 60 in Europe) there's not much I can do. At least for now they only border me in India

In mine the Pink bit is Greece.

Funny thing is that Hungary managed to get the Anatolian Coast and Trebizond had inherited Byzantium also taking land off Venice before Greece was formed by rebels,

Notice the HRE in Ireland (Flanders had conquered Connaught.)

My Byzantine empire, circa 1637. It was a little bit rough in the beginning but now I am really starting to build up.

Oh my god. Have you read my topic on "controlling yourself"? I was asking just about these kinds of things. 1637, with only that small areas? Here's my Byzantium, 1432:

I didn't start as Byzantium, I started as Achaea. Now, due to the fact taht I am not nearly as good as people like you Tuore, or Sony Black(with his Epirus AAR), I had to expand slowly, due to jerk countries like Venice, Naples, the Ottoman Empire, Genoa, and Austria all seeming to want a piece of me.
But as for controlling myself, I like clean, beautiful borders, and, normally, when I reach that border, I stop and focus on achieving that everywhere. Then I go for colonies. Then I get bored and start a new game.

Well if you go powerful to fast then the game just gets boring since nobody can do anything about you either. I like a slow expansion as well so that there will be other nations to balance my power.

Ahhh, just kidding. I started as Achaea... and it was incredibly rough in the beginning, but now it should be easy to exert my influence in Asia minor.
eu36.png

I'm playing achaea in an AAR Im writing. I found it impossible not to get DOWed by byz or OE in the beginning, but before either managed to take my capital I had dowed epirus and annexed them (took a few attempts before I managed to get there before Naples did, as they tend to dow them straight away as well). Fun nation to play tho, it's far from over even when you survive the first war. Only one core and it being wrong culture and wrong religion... it's a nice challange.

controlling myself (and fighting powerful ennemies non-stop too)
unfortunately the new defender of faith is poland :D maybe i'll wait ... or i won't wait too much to complete my mission to recover southern italy :D
if the pope joins i'll annex him ^^

right now i'm at war with transilvania + venice , wondering if i should puppet them or annexing them (venice), to be fool enough to attack me again , after the 4th crusade .... :D
BB isn't an issue i'm far from limit and i trade only in my CoT , they could be useful in both cases :D

In the beginning, I thought about taking Epirus, but decided that I already had two relativly large powers, OE and Byz, breathing down my neck, that I didn't want two more, Venice and Naples, also angry with me. I just grabbed Morea when Byz wasn't paying attention, and then waited for Venice to begin to lose control of its Greek possesions, and then I jumped them too.

Personally, I love the fact that Achaea starts as a wrong culture, wrong religion OPM. Allows you to change your play style. Do you want to control Greek lands and restore the BYZ Empire? Or would you prefer to go after an Italian empire with your Lombard roots

My Scandinavian empire, light blue. And also, a pretty amazing german empire (Europe and India).

Scandinavia:
751,1 in infamy
631 000 maximum manpower
855 000 soldiers standing army (could have more but do not need it)
1305,3 monthly income

The Glorious Empires of Russia and Eastern Rome. I was reading a book on Alexander II and when I read that his father had hoped to conquer Turkey and create a revived Byzantium. So I decided to do it of course.

Early on I conquered byzantium and then released them as a vassal. I've been feeding them provinces ever since. The effect is some very nice borders in the middle east =). I've tried to stay restrained and always stop at places with nice borders.

I don't have any more plans for asia except one mongolian province I think, and the colonies. Austria only became emperor a few years ago, they conquered europe under their own power. Thankfully they're forcing everyone back to Catholocism, as the previous emperors were heretics. Portugal got kicked out of Iberia a long time ago (that one province revolted back).

The only thing I might want to do at this point is force convert all of europe to Orthodoxy (the one true faith).

My first Kingdom of Ayutthaya after switch to HTTT, 1599.

After long war of attrition followed by age of rebellion leaving in Ming in pityful state together with bizarrre strips of Japan, Manchu and Wu. I snatch southern part of China to find out that controlling large empire is a lot more tedious in HTTT ^^" I ditch my plan to conquer India (for now) and stabilize my kingdom. I still need to get in contact with European for westernization though. Thank to the tip in other thread I now have a new goal :p

What are the French doing in Greece? Those lands rightfully belong to the Byzantines!

And is that the Papal State in Naxtos?
