I conquested them as a route to Africa and then released all of my African possessions when the commies took over Canada
Played a Russia game. Wanted to have a casual, slightly interventionist game to explore HoD. It turned into conquest.

The Global Home Port Project
Am giving the UK a try. Conscious decision to ignore infamy from the get go. Did not intend to grab land in continental Europe initially. But Russia and France annoyed me to no end. Together they declared like 5 containment wars against me. So I grabbed Picardie and Normandy off France, and suddenly found out that they counted as “home port” due to the added strait in 3.02. I then examined the map more closely and came up with “The Global Home Port Project.”
I grabbed connecting landmass down to Gibraltar, colonized all of Africa, grabbed Arabia Peninsular, and one province of Persia. Now all of India, Singapore or even Tonkin (Vietnam) are all counted as home port.
Too bad I did not work toward this goal from the onset. Otherwise I would have grab all coastal China, plus Manchuria, Sakhalin Island and Japan. Then, I would be able to build Dreadnought at Edo.
Playing as UK, obviously I am a bit paranoid about navy development, as it is the only thing that stands between home isles and whole of hostile continental Europe. At one stage, I think the Royal Navy has 1300+ ships. At the moment (1921) I have 200+ DNs and 300+ cruisers, more than the rest of the world combined.

That's really cool. It's a good reminder that the UK can be fun with a little creativity.
Britain have nice colour, so map is no ugly. Worse is when half of the world is PINKY (Japan;/)

can I get a coppy of the save files?
Britain decided Idaho was just so wonderful, they couldn't possibly give it up. Maybe they need an extra source of potatoes for the Irish. :laugh:
Only managed to form India at the last few months of the game, shame as I wanted to enjoy the country a little more.
Maybe I'll try again at some point to see if it can be done quicker in a consistent way.

First got my core provinces from Denmark, which was easy, then tried to get all the Sphered german states from Austria, fought a war over Bavaria against them, was relatively easy. But then came the hard part, i wanted to get Alsace-Lorrain, didn't have a noteworthy ally, but declared war on the French nonetheless. Russia, Belgium and some Minors joined in, but I beat them all (was kind of close I have to admit, fighting a war on two fronts is not so nice). Really happy right now. Now I will try to industrialize some more and get some colonies.
Play a bit further, conquered more parts of Austria as some suggested, colonized a little bit in Africa and some parts in the Arabian Peninsula. I am the Number 1 power for a while:
But my situation is a bit complicated, I don't know exactly how to proceed, maybe some of you have some suggestions? I am nearly at the infamy cap, that is one problem. The situation in europe is, that France and Russia are allies, together with Romania. France attacks me regularily to get Alsace-Lorraine back. It gets constantly harder to fight back France, Russia and Minors. I managed to get Swizerland, Sweden and Belgium as Allies, that helps a bit, but as I said, France, Russia, Austria, the Ottomans, potentially Italy are all enemys or potential enemies and its difficult to change that. Great Britain is no big help and all other powers are too far away. I'm thinking about getting some more Austrian lands, specifically at the Adria to get a Mediterranian port, that would be nice. Other than that, maybe I can kick Russia out of GP status and Sphere them? Any tipps are appreciated.
By the way, how do I get these colored world maps as screenshots?
