The Empire of Songhai in 1500. Macina, Bonoman, and Kano are my vassals. Macina will be integrated come July 1500. This started out as a Nobody Wants To Die achievement run, which finally succeeded, and then I thought I was on a roll and decided to keep on rolling.

What's most hindered me so far is the fact that I had my king die without an heir, switching me to another dynasty and pretty low legitimacy. And then he died very quickly, leaving me with even lower legitimacy (something like 20). I'm building up very slowly, but the current king (a 4/5/4, so not too bad) has been around for 43 years. All this low legitimacy set off the counter towards Civil War (currently at 97.5%), which will only end when I get 75 legitimacy or a regency council. So I end up eating single provinces in my wars and just vassalizing everyone because even 10% overextention will start that timer up again.

First time making one of these maps, using this great tutorial. Any tips on how to improve further?
Also, I sadly didn't manage to find out how to show province borders like in the tutorial's example, so I'd be glad if someone could tell me

The game itself was (mostly) a "better than napoleon" achievement run, and it's pretty easy tbh. Most challenging part was getting to Moscow before huge Polandblob could take it (they suddely decided to rather crush the ottomans, so it was even more of a cakewalk).
Late game became a "cold war" between PLC and me (only a few independent/not allied states left in Europe), so i decided to quit with the acceptable borders you see now.

Love the map. I think it would look worse with province borders in it.

And here's Songhai in 1550. Had a nasty Civil War in the 1500s. Progress seems to be slowing down. Never did integrate Benin and Kano, eventually I let them go because I could never get their opinion of me high enough. Vassalized Kanem Bornu and Funj. I'd planned to take some territory in Europe during this war, but Portugal has more troops than I have transport ships and they have no transport ships. Well, then I'll see if I can take over their colonial possessions...

Who cares about Europe? Just eat Africa and, as long as you westernize early enough, you have enough to kick any Euro who comes knocking.

You underestimate how AIs like to increase developement. The total developement of the old world in 1444 is around 15k iirc.

Has anyone actually checked it? It seems a fairly low figure, seeing as even in 1.12 (where development was a lot more expensive) you could easily get a total development several thousands higher.

My German empire:

loads of countries got independent in the americas

Spain in particular was a massive mess the whole game, Castille got beat up early by portugal and Aragon, Louisiana even held a few provinces in Iberia for a while, eventually Aragon united all of it only to lose most of central spain to castille again after a disastrous war with Italy

Achievements got in this game: center of attention, this is my faith, a fine goosestep, an early reich, city of cities
Oh and I built the Kiel canal (massive waste of money but I had plenty anyway)

I will now go to sleep and have nightmares of the coring costs of all those 30+ development provinces in Germany

But I don't want to "kick any Euro who comes knocking". I just white peaced out France, that's good enough for me!

What's wrong with wanting some marginal presence in Europe? How many Sub-Saharan nations can honestly say they have a province in Europe? (Ottomans don't count.)

Also, I don't want to "eat Africa". At least, not in the short run. I don't want to have to go after Mutapa etc. when I can conquer Galicia or something.

Welp, I am done with my Ruthenia Campaign. I started as Kiev, then formed Ruthenia, then I took most of the Traditional land which Russia owned at its peak. I also took part of India and a part of southern China. My colonies are Kievan Alaska, California Rus' and Ruthenian Australia. Oh right, I also have a PU on both Bohemia and (most recent) Switzerland.

I think 1.13 three mountain by tableandchair https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/ryukyu-1-13-1-one-tag.881095/ is where I saw the figure. He turned off Commonsense so his final development is that of 1444.

Oh, you're right--just under 15000, in fact. Ugh, that's pretty unreal when you end up with over 20000 if you play till the 19th century.

Here I was, thinking I did quite well in my germany game, and you post a far larger germany just a day later

it was mostly because i got an extreme long alliance with france and spain, and than i got a PU over france, but i did get the same dynasty as spain around 1620, but never bothered to claim their throne when i got the chance..
and most blobbing was done with administrative efficiency

yeah I'm not all that great at expanding as fast as possible, but I'm satisfied with the results because I was still stronger than the rest of europe combined and I got a lot of achievements out of it

as who did you start btw?
but that are a nice few achievements, personally, i got: an early reich(i have a few achievements like world conquest, but didn't have an early reich ), city of cities, this is my faith, a decent reserve and all your trade are belong to us

started as brandenburg, took danzig and konigsberg from TO before poland could (after which our alliance broke down) and after that steadily expanded in every direction
also got garantor of peace btw (noticed it in the list, only took a few more seconds)

Got off to a solid start in my Kongo game, Usual start trade conflict on Benin attack take 3 coastal provinces vassalise+force religion. Oyo's army got destroyed by rebels so I took 2 provinces and fed the rest to Benin as I pushed further into africa. Mossi was full annexed by Kong, Kong then exploded and mossi was released, Zazzau attacked Mossi and vassalised them, Zazzau was attacked by air and was left with 2 provinces. So I pounced on Zazzau and full annexed the 2 provinces in turn getting a complete Mossi as a vassal.

Update: Long story short, Timbuktu attacked me twice, and lost twice. Integrated Mossi and taken good land off Timbuktu, Kanemboru is a vassal and I can return plenty cores.
