Ah Lothringen was my vassal too, I forgot. And apparently Croatia... tho I am not sure why and how that happened. Game was a while ago.
I do not like power plays and play on a more reasonable expansion speed - and even with mercenaries I ran out of manpower thrice(twice due two Aristocrats revolting via Merchant Republic event and fielding an army four times my force limit) and was just saved from gang bang by being allied to Austria and later France.
Eastern Europe was once dominated by custom nation Belz which I gave tons of military ideas but a war against Lithuania, Sweden, Austria and me left them broken. Being allied to Austria and France and their constant wars slow down too. But mostly it is self restraint which I abandoned at 1750 after forming German and never being without coalition.
And I like vanilla German flag!
I am not sure what you mean by power plays. But I tried to keep the borders clean and don't use too much cheese. But the AI ruins your clean borders attempt anyway which is always so sad. That Scandinavia is a pain to look at. >.<

Started off as Austria, just formed the HRE for the first time, and I am unsure of where to proceed next, France doesn't seem to like me anymore, but I am still kind of afraid of them. Additionally Bulgaria and the Papal states are my vassals, and I think I will try to feed Bulgaria some Ottoman land. The last German enclaves in the HRE are Aachen, Magdeburg, and Switzerland, which I intend to gobble up after our truces expire.
Can you liberate Lithuania? France alone is no threat to you now - the only fear is a massive multi-front war.
I know it's nothing big, but I had a lot of problems up to the 1650s++, so I barely got to do anything.
I do not think that anyone could possibly stop you at this point. And about the problem where to proceed from now... I dont know. I run into that problem alot once I become unbeatable. Maybe restore the old HRE borders?

When the retaliation from the crusades failed, the pope announced a new strategy. The might of kings has failed to hold off the ottomans, and where the kings opposed the pope, that king should cede his power to papal authorities. This came along with the pope declaring that even though the holy lands lie to the east, god is calling man, and papal power to the west. West, across the ocean. While the pope consolidated his power in the Italian peninsula, with the help of France and Austria against argon and other minor powers, the pope worked to send holy men to colonize the new world. While the alliance with France did not last for long, Austria would continue to offer it's protection as long as the papal states continued to expand the holy roman empire and give authority to his rule. This conquest of the Italian area eventually culminated by taking Venice itself, exiling the venetian government to Cyprus. The official religion of the HRE was concretely set as catholic after no war happened between the leagues. France, now protestant, wanting province, decided to attack the papal states in what turned out to be a bloody and brutal war. The papal states eventually defeated France and demanded some of the lower French provinces to be ceded directly to the pope. In the coming years continued bloody and brutal wars would win the rest of france for the papel states. The ottomans, however, continued to rise with great effort. The pope, who had been continually telling the catholic world to crusade against the ottomans eventually lead an attack against the ottomans and re-established serbia as a buffer to ottoman re-expansion as well as gaining land in the Balkans. Two simultaneous wars against austria and the papel states would cede hungary as well as ceeding lands to the pope. The pope in turn, re-founded the latin empire(sans constantinople). The papal states a long ally of castile, came into a period of hostility with the state. Castile broke the long held alliance and declared itself an enemy of the state. The papel states responded by conquring castile and installing a leader favorable and subservient to the pope(intsead of taking control, a concession for its many years of friendship). Their former colonies then lead a rebellion against the remnants of old castile and declared themselves independent. But as the pope said in the 1500's, the new world belongs to god, and in the same vein, his humble servant the pope. The pope ended with the conquest of mexico, leaving not much still left to be conquered.
In all this conquest, the holy roman empire continued to gain authority and pass reforms in the empire, consolidating power to the emperor. There came a point in which the emperor started to ask for more direct control over papal affairs, in which the pope declared "Austria, you are my good friend and ally, but the pope must only be beholden to god". Austria did not take this lightly, and while their relationship stayed true for a time, shortly after power was completely consolidated, the Austrian emperor ended a 4 century long friendship and alliance. While the pope is continually trying to smooth over their relationship, it may come to a head, with scaninavia as an ally to both, it may be a difficult future.
Other things left out, After being annihilated by papal and Austrian power(shortly after westernization), the ottomans ended up loosing many territories to rebels, and eventually a revolution. The pope had a fierce but never hostile(no wars) relationship between it and protestant Brittany and great Britain.

I truly enjoyed this little story. It is always nice to see a player RP like that! (still, some colonial names are strange XD )
But Jerusalem is still not liberated? If the converter works properly, maybe you could continue the campaign in Victoria 2?

Fantastic job! Although my god... the border gore in this game is crazy!
The historical border gore was even worse, especially the Hapbsburg dominion (and let's not even start on territories that accepted two sovereign states at the same time). The only reason why historical maps look so nice is because their authors compromised accuracy due to border-gore XD
