My very modest Byzantine Empire; first game i've played all the way to the End date for EUIV. Took a little while getting used to some of the features since i transitioned from EU3. Absolute miracle chance i didn't get crushed in the first 20 years; focused on getting alliances and attacking the Ottomans while they were occupied. Eventually i had all of the Ottoman's European holdings conquered, I slowly swept into Anatolia and annexed them. My biggest challenge was avoiding a DOW by Najd or Egypt (who had westernized and had a higher military tech than me for quite some time. Eventually I managed to work out an alliance between France, Moscovy and I to counter the behemoth of a "Mitteleuropa" that developed as AI Austria inherited Burgundy, Walachia and then Lithuania; and then proceded to form the HRE and allied with Hungary and Poland. Spain was a nuisance for a while until they were crushed by France in a side war and were forced to release Aragon; After that they left me alone. The last 10 years developed into a Cold War between "Mitteleuropa" and the Flanking Powers. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm117/Matt9686/Screen Shot 2015-02-23 at 7.22.03 AM.png

This is my first game where I have played as a non-western country, so I decided to go with Ayuthayya.

e6rOaqf.png

I was planning on playing the last 3 years but just ran out of steam. Nippon and Sunda are my vassals (Nippon is a Client State and March) and Ayyustralia is my colonial nation, who was all but 1 province in the Australia region (Damn Portugal!). I didnt really plan on colonizing, so I was a little late to the party when I decided I did, mid way through the game  . My Idea groups were (in order): Expansion, Influence, Quality, Humanist, Exploration, Offensive, Economic and Religious. I am western and tech 29/30/31. By the 1500's I was making tons of money on trade, enough to go over my force limit by quite a bit, this allowed me to expand quite early on.

ZkJ48tU.png

Europe was kind of weird this game (IMO), at one point, Great Britain owned all of brandenburg/Poland/Polotsk, but after becoming Revolutionary GB, they were wrecked by Spain, France and Austria. Guyenne has been independent since I discovered Europe, the same goes with Galicia. Most of Italy is owned by The Pope. Also, Muscovy just got
totally wrecked again and again, and in the end it was a huge Yaroslavl that formed Russia. Also as of right now, Scandinavia is fully sieged by France.

MvTOead.png

North America is pretty much a huge mess. France, Netherlands and Spain managed to keep a hold of their colonies, but GB lost the USA and Louisiana. I had most of Alaska.

7wKoi6a.png

South America is pretty normal, except for a huge Cusco surviving and also Brittany managed to get a pretty sizable colonial nation before being annexed by the BBB.

Foremost servitor of Jagannath:

At the moment I completed the achievement in 1788, I had 712 provinces. But there was still time for cleanup. Africa to own, and of course a run at 1001 after all.

Just needed 300+ provinces in 33 years to make up for broken CN nonsense. No sweat, made it with like 6 years to spare :p.

Orissa can culture drift to Persian to form Mughals, Persian is quite big.

my dutch empire, I can hardly be proud of it after seeing some of the massive and awesome empires in this thread but I'm gonna post it anyway
I had the largest army in the world (along with my ally the ottomans, but their army was pretty weak
I started as utrecht and gradually took all of the dutch and flemish provinces from burgundy, after that I expanded somewhat into germany
france took a mission to take provinces in the spice islands and obviously wanted my single province there so badly that they broke our 200 year alliance, lucckily the ottomans stepped into the breach and over the course of multiple wars we (and scandinavia) were able to defeat the franco-polish alliance and take some provinces
Austria withered away as usual, spain was extrordinarily strong and had a huge navy (I was too lazy to build 2000 ships to match his navy, altough I could have afforded it)
I had a pretty nice colonial empire as well (all of australia, new zealand, large chunk of north america), but they were really annoying because they kept declaring war on the spanish colonies which led me into some massive wars with spain that were completely useless to me

petertel,

Starting as Utrecht i would not have done better. I am proud of you :)
I would love to post a picture about me playing england at the end of the game. I did get lucky once and had about double the income as the nr 2 on the ledger on about half of the game. And was pretty proud of my thirteen colony in North america. Ill post a picture one day. At the time i stopped playing because of a new expansion and patch.

Gothic Invasion successfull !

very hard game, because of dumb coalitions of nearly all Europe against me any time...

Strategy :

Take Crete from Venice for future coring in the continent
Attack Austria and take Gorz for bridgehead in the HRE
Ally Ottomans for naval supremacy and Muscovy for securing eastern front when Poland/Lithuany dow you
Improve relations with France, Castille to escape massive blobs and impossible coalitions
Eat piece by piece the HRE

I can't see how you managed to completely fill out a third idea line and be ahead of time in all 3 tech groups. I know it's cheaper to core overseas provinces, but still. Also curious what your strategy was to defeat or distract the Venetian navy to conquer Crete.

@petertel That's actually a really nice Netherlands - just nab Bremen and Saxony and your borders will be about as "un-ugly" as they can be after blobbing into the HRE!

HRE provinces are not overseas to Theodoro, unless you move your capital to another continent.

So here's my sad excuse for a Russia, this is probably my most successful Russian game though (out of hundreds of tries). I got to around 1797 until I called it quits. My strategy here was ally poland early for security against the hordes and then steamroll the western hordes with poland/lithuania and then allied Prussia to bring the commonwealth down, it worked out quite well.
Mantua very nearly formed Italy, it only needed a OPM Milan but was too late and got stomped by a French-Aragonese alliance and fell apart.
I'm also very proud of that Caucasian Border with a nice looking Ottomans and Persia. I never got around to conquering sunni Theodoro, it meant going up against a very strong Ottos.
Most of my game I was cursed with bad kings so I had bad and slow tech.

My most successful attempt at a Ming WC so far, but I opted for the 1,001 first and ran into some pretty large "increased core cost" nations.
Quite certain if I play again with a vassal/new world focus I can get it. Anybody else have tips for WC when PUs/HRE are not an option?

If you want WC but don't care about 1 tag, the answer is to just spam out vassals at the end going over relations limit, even with new liberty desire rules nobody is going to touch that kind of empire I bet.

If you want 1 tag, you'll want to at least move your cap to an island to get the 50% reduction on coring in Europe and Africa, though it's still prohibitively high tax. For Ming, dipannex is and overseas coring are in the same neighborhood, with dipannex being a bit better. Use both. You'll need it.

Capital moving is a good idea. Thanks, I will give that a try next time. I will most definitely be focusing on vassal spam, but I have been nervous due to the issues (that you are aware of) regarding coring/religious unity in subjects.

Nothing amazing but almost perfect borders. If only you had eaten that northeastern oirat province :p

After grabing some territory of the neighbours I westernized (painfully). Then I was stuck between a powerfull Commonwealth (allied with austria and Novgorod), a Muscovy that hadn't defeated Novgorod (but it was still stronger then me) and a nogai that was allied to the Ottoman Empire.
Lost a few wars against them (had to integrate Ryzan and the Gothic crimea province about 4 or 5 times) I slowly made my way to the Timurid empire while keeping an eye out for expanision towards the north and east. I managed to get into 2 wars with the ottoman empire althought they were an ally.

When I managed to win a war against Muscovy while they were westernizing they got dogpiled by the Uzbecs, Novgorod and Commonwealth. Novgorod managed to reclaim all it's territory and muscovy itself. A few years later Muscovy ended up as vassal of Oirat.
I took several wars to tear down the Timurids and their Indian allies but with persian and russian culture acceptance my power base was greatly increased. For the first time I felt safe and on track and then the Commonwealth attacked. I lost about 10 provinces of my original homeland.

Fast forward 100 years of cleaning up the remnants of the Timurids, Uzbec, Persia, Baluchistan, another war with the Commonwealth and a cointinous invasion of the Oirat I finally reached Ming who had steadily expanded into mongolia.
Several brutal wars with the West and some easy ones against Ming I managed to reunite the old Empire of Ghenghis.

The situation in Europa at the end of the game. Portugal Inherited England somewhere in the 1600 and together with France was a major pain since almost every time one of those 2 was the Defender of Faith.
