Hi guys! Looked through almost all the empires! Very awesome stuff

Just joined the scene here and so far played 2 amazing games.

My First game was me playing Spain, not the best stats but quite an amazing map coverage!
1024x576.resizedimage

Second game, I just played/still playing. Really took this one too heart! Failed the first 4 times because the Moscovy start/ Westernization is so sloppy for me. This is my current game, plenty of time to go on and conquer. I still have not westernized but I already smashed the power houses of Europe. It was a very expensive war and my current army stands at 160,000. Playing the true historic way, where human beings are just souls that are counted.

Well... here come my first Ironman, from the game begining to the last day playable. I started as a simple Daimyo, Japan united at 1478, colonized a region in South Africa, with core in 1625 and then I started the westernization. After that: expand, expand and expand all I could. :)

The result:

ecwd.png

I have 5 small vassals in the north of india... and that's all, what do you think?

thats pretty nice :D

I got an early Japan game aswell
unified Japan too in 1478, then vassalized Korea, took manchu and trying to colonise my way into the new world early via Alaska/Island hopping

But I have stopped now in 1516, after I read that Japan can experience some bugs with christian rebels/events, did you encounter any masspoping of christian rebels?

Long time lurker, but first time post. :D Figured I'd share my empire after getting the Poland into space Ironman achievement. ^___^

ZANDW5k.jpg

I decided not to get into a personal union with Lithuania at the start in order to simplify the westernisation process: I wanted as little territory as possibly to avoid having to deal with a large scale civil war and also wanted to minimise building in weak provinces and focus on reaching max tech. In hindsight I could have just kept them in a permanent PU, but Lithuania tends to barely be able to handle its own internal strife (notice the large Polotsk and Ukraine acting as a nice buffer between Russia and myself), let alone assisting someone else. Basically it's best to ditch Lithuania the moment they start raking up large War Exhaustion. Therefore I allied with Austria and Lithuania, and started coring all of Hungary's provinces within the Krakow centre-of-trade (which allow you to maintain a monopoly while also providing a nice buffer between the Ottoman Empire and yourself; it also wastes a lot of the OE's administration power (because of Hungary's +200% coring penalty) hindering their expansion by a decade or so). After having acquired the territory around Pest, I became strong enough to diplo-vassalise+annex Masovia (which gives a nice event), Pommernia and Mecklemburg. Around that point, I cancelled my vassalisation with Moldova after acquiring a land border with the Ottoman Empire. As anticipated, Moldova got annexed shortly afterwards. I was very lucky westernising, having seriously underestimated the difficulty of westernising comapared to that of EU3. The systematic hits to your mil and dip power effectively paralyse you tech-wise. Ironically, westernising caused me to fall behind . Luckily for me, I had a high admin monarch at the time (a BIG must for anyone attempting Westernisation) allowing me to escape the rebellions of Westernisation. While I was lucky enough not to get attacked during westernisation, my ally Lithuania crumbled during my period of westernisation, unable to handle the WE it gained following its victories in Moscovy. Ironically, all the cores it had gained defected back to Moscovy and Ukraine and Polotsk declared independence. Lithuania was shortly gobbled up by its own progeny. However, immediately after successfully westernising, the OE decided to show me who was boss with its ally Crimea. They proceeded to thoroughly rip me a new hole (despite me attempting to immediately peace out at the start of the war offering +150% War Score worth of provinces), deciding that if they wouldn't give me peace, they could simply take what they liked and I could minimise my WE. Surprisingly, the peace they ended up suggesting was a lot more generous than the one I had offered them: asking me to release Krakow and Masovia as well as giving them all my Hungarian cores). The huge WE and manpower losses I acquired from deliberately letting the OE invade my territory paralysed me for another 20 years. I then sought a new alliance: France, the most hated nation in West Europe was desperate for allies. I wouldn't recommend doing this if the Emperor is strong, but in my game Austria was getting beaten on quite hard, and ended up losing the HRE title to Bohemia (the entirety of the HRE defected to the protestant faith, leaving Austria on its own, and would even go on to forming the HRE in the mid 1700s). In fact, by securing Pommern and Mecklemburg in the early game, it prevented any northern powerhouses from developing. (leaving Denmark and the Hansa with few areas to expand). Bohemia did try declaring war on me (due to their rivalry), but lost Silesia in the process (remember to always fabricate claims on EVERY bordering province; just in case you need to use them); after that they were too weak to achieve anything in or out the HRE (luckily though they had inherited a war-free HRE.

The map as you see it has been virtually unchanged over the last 100 years. Most of the wars were between the Spain+HRE+England Coalition vs France (usually resulting in the exchange of some minor colonial provinces) and the Sweden+Crimea vs Russia coalition for some worthless provinces. After having achieved the world's largest military force around the mid 1600s and having avoided any expansion-related negative opinion modifiers (the only state in the region that couldn't stand me was the Ottoman Empire) regional hegemony was reached. Finally, the Liberté, égalité, fraternité and a lucky 6/6/6 monarch towards the end helped me reach my goal well ahead of time.

To anyone attempting the achievement: Firstly, you don't need to westernise. Westernisation really screwed up my Poland bigtime. I was REALLY lucky that during the westernisation process, no one declared war on me: I doubt many players will be so lucky. Furthermore, I lost several levels of tech from my nearest neighbours (though I caught up a century later, and the boost helped me maintain a 1 military level lead over the Eastern tech group at all times). If you DO want to Westernise, a tip is to grab a diplomatic NI and dump all your diplomatic power into that NI; thereby giving you some benefits as well as Poland's unique NIs. You want to deliberately let your Diplo tech fall behind, like that you can westernise faster. (you need to be behind by a total of 8 levels from all your techs combined). You can stop adding points in admin once you've picked up the constables+temples tech. On the other hand, don't let your military tech fall behind! While it may sound tempting, without a high military tech, I'd never had made it through Westernisation (those rebels really hurt; I think it might have something to do with me switching from and inferior military group, and therefore they acquired the more advanced western techs). Make the most of your pre-westernisation time to build constables and temples everywhere (you'll need good income to maintain a strong army during the Westernisation process).
Another tip which I can proffer in hindsight, is not to take the "move your capital to Warsaw" decision until after you westernise (as the event itself gives 3 stability). Seriously, getting above 0 stability after westernising is a PAIN.
Tips for defeating the OE: Muscovy, and to a lesser extent, France and Spain are your friends here. Muscowy's winter attrition wrecks the armies of Crimea and the OE, while at the same they do a good job defeating them on land. The higher you can bring up their WE, the more likely the OE is to peace out.

TL;DR: Poland is really fun! I've usually avoided playing Poland given the poverty of the region in previous EU games, but I'm glad that the achievement baited me into playing a game as Poland. :D It's a really challenging region wedged between the HRE, mighty Russia, and the OE. Luckily the HRE and Russia hate the OE enough to ignore you. <3

Here is my first Irish colonial/trade game. My goal for the game was to conquer all of Britannia and colonize all of North America. I started off uniting Ireland and then knocking England's teeth in after they got destroyed by France and the War of the Roses. Cornwall had got independence and took all of wales with them, so I quickly vassalized and annexed them. It just took a couple wars before I had most of England under control. Scotland also had some land, but I couldn't do anything while they were allied with France. My chance for domination of the isles came when Scotland dishonored France's call to arms against Spain, and I quickly declared war to take all of England over. Soon Scotland was completely annexed and all of the British Isles was under Irish control! The rest of the game was spent colonizing America and establishing trade. I also took a chunk of India and China after getting both of the missions that give claims. Overall it was a fun game. I can't believe how much money can be made with trade, much more than any of my games as a land power.

My Aragonese Empire, Ironman Mode:
aragonese_zps23dcd46d.jpg

Surviving as Aragon was hard, it took me about 4-5 tries in ironman mode. I finally figured out that the best thing to do is enforce a personal union on Portugal as quickly as possible, after vassalizing Navarre. Don't form any alliances until you declare war on Portugal. Use Navarre as a naval base, to avoid the Portuguese Navy. Wait until England starts to lose the 100 years war, and then declare war. After enforcing a personal union with Portugal, focus on invading Castille (annex the southern countries first to cut Castille off from colonizing, and to landlock Castille). The biggest problem in this game was France. France became a colonial superpower, seemed OP, and should be subdued or eliminated early in the game if you plan on playing Aragon.

So, this is my Russian empire, tell me if you see what's cool about it ?

2013-08-27_00005.jpg

So, I started with Golden Horde, I headed North, I bordered Sweden, I westernized, I change my capital to the Russian province (which were in majority), I culture shift, lost 5 stability, form Russia, move my capital to St Petersburg, win 2 stability, and, here I am with my sunni westernized Russian Kanhate with Horde ideas !

edit: Oh, and, btw, I lead a PU with Kazakh with is as big as me !

Started as Sweden. Took forever to get my paws on Norway. They kept allying with Muscowy, later Russia. Denmark was relatively easy though I've left Bornholm to the Danes just because I like to see them suffer. I've struggled tremendously with expanding my territory seeing as how I'm at 1750 at this point. Russia has gone mental and just taken everything. They've never left the coalition against me which means that wherever I'm fighting, it's about 80% chance that Russia joins up and they've been sending stacks of 40-50 at me for the past 150 years. This means that in order to protect my borders I have to leave damn near half my army by Russia to hunt them down and kick 'em in the face. This has limit my ability to take on other enemies.

While Spain is doing extremely well, I'm limiting a lot of their trade by simply managing to have a bigger fleet. This means that if it comes down to it, I will take them down on the sea, which I have several times. Britain has one massive stack of warships which cause trouble at times, but overall I feel I'm well equipped to take on any nation. Except Russia. I can take on their armies but they've got so much territory that it'll take me about 10 years to put a dent in the warscore.

Thankfully I'm allied with Bohemia, which is the brownish blob in the middle of Europe and in a personal union with Burgundy in the west. France has one province in Europe, the chief of the HRE is some one province nation that's absolutely harmless. The Livonian Order went crazy and conquered most of everything between Poland and Russia but they've got nothing to put up against anyone anymore, despite having quite a bit of territory. A hundred years of constant war will do that to a nation.

I really wanted to get my paws into more overseas trade, but Spain has quite efficiently stopped me from that. The poor position of Scandinavia means that trade much of South America, Africa and Asia is limited. I've yet to figure out a way to funnel that trade my way. I'm raking in about 200 ducats per month in trade from Lubeck and the Baltic. Funneling from the Caribbean, Chesapeake to the North Sea then to Lubeck as well as funneling some from Novgorod. I feel as if I could do a heck of a lot better though but I was slow in the colonising process and would need Antwerpen, at least, to have a chance at Asian/Africa trade. The resources required to collect trade from nodes where I have no influence just seems a bit high atm. Maybe if I get my naval forcelimits up. My 160 light ships are all occupied at the moment as are my 5 merchants.

thats pretty nice :D

I got an early Japan game aswell
unified Japan too in 1478, then vassalized Korea, took manchu and trying to colonise my way into the new world early via Alaska/Island hopping

But I have stopped now in 1516, after I read that Japan can experience some bugs with christian rebels/events, did you encounter any masspoping of christian rebels?

Yeah, but I was prepared for it because in my first Japan game I had the same problem... saving 200 of A/D/M points, and maintaining stability at 3 or saving enough Administrative points to reach it, then you can make a decision against the christians; the propagation will end and your missionaries will be stronger.

If you are not prepared, the most probably result is that you'll fall against the christians, but use it in your favor:
- Save 200 of A/D/M points
- Have a stability of 1
- Choose the mission about destroying the rebels, wich will give you +2 stability when it's done.
Them let the christians expand and win, you can't do nothing against it because they are really a lot. When they win, the rebels will 'dissapear', you will loose a lot of prestige, but you will have 3 stability, and the necessary points to choose the previously mentioned decision, then just keep playing without all this rebels and convert your regions again to the Shintoism, it's your only chance.
