There was a challenge to remove Russian culture from the map completely as fast as possible. Many said that it was all about getting a lucky PU, I wanted to prove that wrong.

1527. A lot of room for improvement, but I hope to see some other attempts.

I don't know why, but you just made me LoL so hard. It's so beautiful. And I noticed that Chimu save file... I hope that one will come with an AAR once it gets going!

Nearly 1600, pretty happy with my Brandenburg > Prussia game so far. Not going to form Germany because it's flag is ugly and Prussia sounds better.

The world, Prussian Holdings, tribes, etc.

Vassals

Norway (released from a nearly 100% warscore war with Denmark, securing my northern borders)
Styria (obligatory spoils from a game of smash-Austria-to-peices)
Flanders (same, from Austrian holdings in former Burgundian lands, plus I need the Antwerp node for later when I start shipping from the colonies)
Iroquois (small green blob on the Eastern coast of NA, I had too much overextension so I had to release a vassal over there, even though i'd rather have not)

0ODZYqP.png

AvxevxX.png

Most interesting achievement during the game I have to say would be this

7TsuMUP.png

iXKcVeK.png

I'm still playing in 1.1 so the Counter Revolution CB is still nice =P gotta take the Diplomatic ideas next which is why im hoarding Diplo points. Current ideas - Exploration, Quality, Religious

Being a noble republic with the 0.25+ Morale, I get a whole lot of extra morale being Prussia, I need to take Defensive too, +1 morale from Prussian idea, +.50 from Defensive, +.25 from Noble Republic... = dead enemies.

Interesting things that happened...

Novgorod revolted from a peasents-war innundated Muscovy earlier.

NrdiUZJ.png

I had Lithuania under a PU for a long time early game, but they broke from it. It's fine anyway since their soldiers were extremly weak, as if they never rose the maintenence slider above 50%.

Also PU'ed Bohemia very early game, after I noticed Austria would ally me AND join a war against Bohemia for their throne. As you can see now Bohemian lands are a center of my powerbase.

Future exploits...

Probably need to funnel more manpower (armies) to North America to start smashign those natives (Homo Sapiens mod) , although they add to overextension unfortunately... Currently have two stacks of 16/7/7 on the mainland Prussia and a stack of 11 in the colonies. The mod makes it a lot harder to colonize for everyone because the natives join in coalitions just like Europe, so it really slows both players and AI down. As you can see from that huge Inca blob in South America a relatively powerful Spain hasn't expanded colonially, yet... although they will start agressively in the 1600s.

My last game as Provence. The beginning was incredibly tough, constant wars against France and Burgundy (which didn't disappear) plus Austria and Spain becoming enemies. No PUs all game long.

I am now the proud owner of North America plus mainland France. And as a little extra I've been the HRE emperor for the last 100 years, now being able to unite the empire with every nation as my vassal, including blobby Bohemia. Time to quit now.

My latest Burgundy > Netherlands game. Focus was on continental conquest. Disassembled the western powers, but sadly due to the last two hundred years of continuous coalitions, there's ugly bits of England and Castile left (and no cores to release in Europe). No PU's and no focus on colonization (picking up scraps with the 1 settler from expansion ideas). I suspect I made a mistake by going protestant and leaving the HRE, but still quite proud I took mainland France apart.

I actually find these empires a bit worrying. I can't play EU4 yet, but I will be able to play it soon. I'm seeing a lot of small countries turned into massive empires by the end of the game. This suggests two possibilities:

A) EU4 players are ludicrously skillful
or
B) EU4 is a ludicrously easy game.

Which is correct?

You forgot; C) Saved Game Editing.

I think that is why they made Ironman mode, but I won't play it because of all the autosaving and the lucky nations bit.

In all fairness, the more "interesting" empires are probably the ones that haven't been console commanded/savescummed into existence.

And, me personally, I find the ones that tried to focus on some degree of European expansion more interesting than the slew of em (and i'm guilty of this too) that simply walked all over all the non-Western tech chunks of the world and never touched Europe.

All it takes is for a little bit of early game luck for a small country to snowball to a point where it could continously grow.

I dont like Europe simply because of how sensitive it is to coalitions. In Asia you stand a fairly good chance of conquering a large amount of real estate before the mass coalitions start to crop up.

Very interesting game! You should try starting as Sri Lanka (Ceylon). Its a much tougher start as you are inevitably singled out as the only Buddhist country in the region. I was playing a game as them and managed to conquer all of Southern India while Vij got torn apart by a coalition after they annexed 2/3rds of Bahamins in 1 war. The major problem is the inability to convert anything and the inevitable instability associated with having like 5% religious unity. Also... military inferiority to the northern Sunni states.

My first ironman game. Not extremely efficient, but I managed to colonize all the pacific before the european came knocking, and also only got myself one little tiny bit of border with them, in alaska, which allowed me to westernize soon and with only one war that I was even able to WP out of. The diplo naval tech really shined, can't recommend it enough for a malaya game, an early focus on the navy is devastating for the other indonesian nations. My early (gamey) strategy was to let them invade me in sumatra, they would split their army and then I would invade johor, making them move their stack of doom there. After the stack is in the mainland you only need to block the malacca strait and clean up sumatra's sieging armies. Rinse and repeat.
It is a very easy game and I could have expanded much much more, but I am a bit of a wuss, and also it was my first ironman game, so I was a bit scared of getting into too much trouble.
I also lost a lot of time conquering japan, but I set it as a personal focus. I ended up releasing them to avoid having to pay 2k+ of admin points to core their last provinces, and funnily enough they became a sultanate.

Surviving and doing well as Ireland!

Decided to have a go as Ireland and to be honest I really didn't find it that hard, I didn't play on ironman but I swear to god I never releaded at any point. I took adavantage of England only having a navy of 12 ships and while I took Meath Spain and France sweep the navy then I took a province or two before finishing off and getting Meath.! I then survived a 1500's invasion from them, and this really was basically down to me alone. Just sitting 8 stacks on each irish province to warn away any English. I then went about smashing all the weak Nortern and Southern American nations as well as some Indonesian one province minors, I even managed to take Macau from a really backwards nation neighbouring the Ming.

It is a very small minority of nations which really need luck in the beginning. I have done Ansbach, Friesland, Navarra all with 0 restarts in ironman

Or try Assam, their ideas are cool and they start rather poor, next to Bengal.
