So this is my first ironman game. After learning basics like 100 years with France and 100 years with Spain, I decided to try HRE ironman. I started as Austria with 1.2 and it was a really emotive game. As an Emperor of HRE I felt like a mother hen protecting its babies and slapping them often because they hurt a brother. This game was really a war intense, depleting my manpower as Austria often.

I always felt threatened from the west by France, so when I saw two opportunities, when France was after a long bloody war, I joined in to cut France a little. France was cut down to a 4 province nation and then became my vassal. I was often dragged in a big wars I didn't want to fight, like when allied elector attacked another minor allied with Muscovy and England, but at the end I somehow prevailed.

I think I had around 2-3 moments I was really emotive and was considering dropping the game altogether, like when I had a double stack of troops attacking France on plains, but their supper general with 6-5-4-1 vs my best one 1-2-0-0, kicked my but repeatedly and only thing that saved me was my treasury and raising mercs after mercs. I was really unlucky about generals, because for the first 150 years all my generals were 0-3-0-0 or 1-2-0-0 and I burned lot of military points kicking them and generating another ones. I was fighting almost non-stop, so my military tradition was always high, I just consider myself unlucky.

I forced a PU on Bohemia through mission, just to have it cancelled 2 months later because my 38years old king died. At that time I was elected by some miracle, because when I looked at the election screen, I had not enough votes.

Around 1620 I completed the HRE (damn Bohemians, they were doing the most problems and always rejecting everything I proposed) and from there I tried to expand to all directions. The problem was I always felt like I am not strong enough :) , because all major powers were in some sort of alliances, with Muscovy under England's PU. That's why Hungary lives and Order too.

In the end, I had a really enjoyable and intense game.

Thank you, Paradox :)

Remember when I said I would replay my previous Sweden game?

Here it is.

Government is Absolute Monarchy
Kasimov is capital
Primary Culture is Tartar
No other accepted cultures
State Religion is Shiite
Religious unity is 100%
Monarch is Karl XI Filip von Wittelsbach
Technologies are 32/32/32
Vassals are Norway (Noble Republic), Muscovy (Absolute Monarchy), and Ming (Constituional Monarchy)

Tax income is 94.2
Production income is 364.98
Trade income is 284.225
Gold income is 7.09
Vassal income is 46.72

Idea groups are, taken in this order:
Expansion
Innovative
Offensive
Administrative
Quality
Economic
Defense
Plutocracy

Military Stats - Sweden
Army: 166000 Infantry, 32000 Cavalry, 136000 Artillery, 6000 Mercenary Infantry
Navy: 86 Galleys
Discipline: 166% (Not including chancellors/temp modifiers)
Land Morale Bonus: +95% (including full Pious)

Navy: 52 Heavy Ships, 95 Light Ships, 109 Galleys, 27 Transports

Other Comments:
Breifly converted to Republic using the Bureaucratic despotism event so I could grab Plutocracy. I got the event about 2 more times after I converted back to Monarchy. Got a 6/6/6 Leader out of it who reigned for 60 years.
The Von Wittelsbachs have held on to Sweden since 1444, even though they lost power everywhere else except for The Palitinate. Even in the Breif Republic conversion, a Von Wittelsbach was in charge.
Sweden has two Universities
Legitimacy is low because my 6/6/6 ruler just died and his replacement had low legitimacy, regaining legitimacy at 4.14 each year
Prestige is low because of counter revolutionary triggered modifier

Notable Events:
Blobbomans
Austria is emperor, and at second to last reform, Prussia and Netherlands left HRE, but Bohemia is still in the HRE
Prussia was formed by Pommerania, not Brandenburg, and is a Republic
Bohemia and Poland are Reformed
Great Britian, England, and Norway are Protestant
Steppe Hordes are extinct, with exception of OPM Timurids
Mexico is the only successful colonial revolter
Republics, republics everywhere

Bugs/Issues found:
Europe is suprisingly passive with Revolutionary France, like they just do not care that Rev. France is sapping their prestige.
Counter Revolution malus probably should not apply if you have no valid CBs against Rev. France and cannot get any, due to distance.
Forcing United Japan to release Daimyos as vassals results in those Daimyos being auto-vassalized, even if they are not Daimyos.
It would be nice if I could reduce the amount of vassal income, as I really have no need for the extra 40 ducats/month but I really want my vassals to produce more troops and buildings.
Norway refused to colonise, at all, even though it had a colonist and Greenland was nearby and available.

In retrospect, I probably should have vassalized Muscovy and fed them the Novgorod and White Sea nodes while plopping my capital somewhere near Kazan, infact I would probably be making more trade income because most of my current trade income is being siphoned by the Europeans dumping hundreds of light ships at Novgorod. Muscovy would have also made an excellent western counterpart to Ming, and unlike Ming they would actually have useful ground troops. It would have also helped my AE since any move I made generated tons of AE.

Here you go. Probably not saying it outfront, but the prospect seemed interesting enough that I decided to play it out.

Nice Sweden of the Steppes.
I've noticed the prevalence of republics in late game, too.. Bureaucracies scheming and revolutionary rebels everywhere. Pretty annoying.

Afaik, your vassal income is not deduced from their earnings. So, reducing that income won't change their incomes (and thus armies+infrastructure) at all.

So, after I finished my Granada game I was looking for something new. After some nice input from some helpful forum users I decided to try "The Knights Hospitaller", which aren't exactly in a great spot at 1444. I did a few restarts of the first two decades, because it's immensely important to grow fast in the beginning for small nations in my experience. Originally I was going by the House Rule "Don't change government" and "Only attack Heretics and Heathens" (apart from one war against Urbino in the beginning, because I did not find another viable strategy), but after being attacked by Austria and France respectively I decided it was time to beat them back into faith.

By the year 1821 the Mare Nostrum is safely united under the true defenders of Christianity, the Holy Cities are reclaimed and (mostly) peacefully converted to the One True Faith. The Pilgrim's Paths are guarded by valiant knights, as are the (profitable) trade routes, the (very profitable) gold mines and the devoted citizens. The faithful nations (read: vassals) worked through Africa in the name of God, bringing salvation, strong drink and poverty to the natives.

Despite their endless struggles, The Knights Hospitaller were despised by lesser nations, envying their unsurmountable faith, power and wealth.

The Knights truest friend for close to 300 years without pause had been The Holy See, although there were some who did not accept the natural role of leadership The Knights Hospitaller took up (I simply missed one of the "there's a new cardinal"-messages and he got in before I could buy him. At the end I was at more than 100 PI / year, my own cardinals spawned at about 280 PI).

Sadly, The Knights did not manage to overcome all odds - the mighty judges of Paradox Interactive did not deem The Knights worthy of the highest grace.

Overall a very interesting and intense game, although after the first 50 years it was actually easier than Granada for several reasons:

- I could ally powerful catholic nations.
- I did not have many overseas provinces, resulting in a lot more manpower, force limits and money early on.
- I did not have to westernize.

There were four events which increased my power immensely within a very short time:

- the opening move of vassalizing the Balkan Nations and Naples, as well as taking Urbino and Rome (probably the biggest increase, considering I jumped from an OPM to about ~20 provinces within less than 10 years).
- the vassalization of the Byzantine Empire and the resulting war, returning all their cores.
- the release of Aragon as a vassal and their cores returned.
- the release of Portugal as a vassal and the subsequent returned cores.

An amazing experience altogether, although the endless coalition wars in the last ~100-150 years were tedious (and in the beginning even dangerous). I achieved everything and more than I had planned. My original goal had been North Africa, Middle East, Greece and Arabia, maybe Southern Italy. In the end, I was amazed by the possible snowballing effect a player can achieve if he knows the mechanics of the game. I did use DDRJakes "release nations to lose AE"-trick once at the end, because I wanted to finish Africa and had a huge coalition going - I'm pretty sure if you would do that every ~5 years it's possible to achieve a lot more.

Here it is... my completed Sweden -> Scandinavia game. This one was a testament to the power of conquest. All the land you see here was acquired by conquest with a few exceptions (I diplo-vassalized Serbia and Scotland). Elsewise, I had no PUs occur the entire game (I was hoping for France but I never even got a chance to claim throne the entire game...) and only released vassals and fed them. I'm very proud of what I've accomplished here. After playing through this game, I believe it is within reach for a sunni Ottomans to do a WC. I posted a thread detailing how I accomplished this if anyone is interested so I will not waste your time by reposting the details here. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to integrate everyone... Hedjaz, Ethiopia, and Sicily are still my vassals at the end of this game. Without further ado... here it is.

Interesting things that happened: Spain got a PU over Bohemia, Colombia got released as well as the USA (who got 1 province in NA and 1 in SA... who knows how lol), and England got semi-historical American borders!

Almost managed to stamp the Sunnis out of existence. I decided to remain catholic because being papal controller is just too strong mid to late game to pass up (mostly for the extra diplomat). I only had like 3 provinces flip so it was pretty easy.
