A child of any age can be a genius, but I'd argue that isn't true for lustfulness.
Even age 0? A genius? Really?

Traits be traits. Anyway, it's extremely likely that at least one of her parents is lustful, at the risk of this getting more creepy.

Nope. Knowledge is something that you acquire through experience. Some people may have a particular aptitude for acquiring knowledge of various kinds a lot quicker than others, to the point that we would label them geniusses. But a 1 month child is certainly not a genius by any standards :D

I assume the in-game trait 'Genius' refers to an individual's innate genetic intellectual ability, which can only be marginally influenced, like IQ, whereas an individual's knowledge is represented via their education traits. You can be a genius and have absolutely no kind of education or knowledge whatsoever, and you can be the complete opposite of a genius and theoretically have had a thorough education. In this way a child of any age, literally a child who has just been born, could be a genius in that they have the genetic capabilities. A genius child would be an individual who talks exceptionally early, for example, not necessarily someone who fully understands the inner complexities of quantum physics.

You can still be quite knowledgable yet lack the cognitive ability to apply that knowledge.

I'd consider intelligence to be less about what you know and more about what you can figure out for yourself.

You're not a genius before you acquire knowledge of some kind though. You're just a fast learner. If we start deflating the term genius this much, then there is a LOT of geniuses out there

It depends ultimately on how you define 'genius.' If you define it by IQ, which is probably the most common definition of genius, then it doesn't require any level of education or knowledge and just refers to intellectual ability (although the definition of that is also up for debate.) If you define it by extent of knowledge then pretty much everybody could be a genius even with an average intellect just by having learnt a lot of stuff. In fact in using this definition there would be far more geniuses than through the IQ definition, which ensures only a tiny minority of people are geniuses.

IQ tests just measure your ability to solve IQ tests... as some people say.

A person with a "Genius" trait should be a person that not only has the necessary prerequisities, but also knows how to use their knowledge. Why would they get a +5 boost to their stats, anyway?
And my original point was that the "Genius" trait should appear past a certain age. You can't really define if a person is a genius before they grow up a bit more.

Really the only thing you should start with is physical traits. And even then, how many people are born tall?

I always thought the genetic traits were just indicators of something exceptional or otherwise noteworthy in that character's genes, not so much something you can tell of a person from birth.

Considering they already receive the benefits of that trait as babbies I'd have thought it applied to them already.

While I partially agree, it just seems a bit unrealistic to have a 0-year old genius. What I would do is make the genetic traits (especially quick/genius) acquirable. what I thought of is an event somewhere during childhood. What a possible genius should start with is a modifier that gives him an increased chance to trigger the event to give him (again, only my vision) the "quick" trait and only then, eventually, the "genius" trait. Babies shouldn't start "attractive" either. They should get the trait when it's noticeable (adolescence, perhaps?). Lefthanded or ambidextrous should appear somewhere at 4-6 (the age when kids learn to write? Somewhere around), strong and tall should appear between 6 and 15 perhaps. I just feel the genetic traits need a bit of a revamp.

I've had an extremely fast-paced game, and I thought I'd share this checkpoint with you guys.

I started as the Khagan of Khazaria. I proceed to subjugate, subordinate, and invade everything which wasn't blocked by a truce. A few losses from opportunistic AIs, but a lot of gains, including a full invasion of Bulgaria and full subjugation of the fully-intact King of Armenia. I even had the Byzantines as a tributary state during the lifetime of my first ruler. My initial heir converted to Catholicism (from Judaism) while fighting for the Franks as a mercenary, and so did much of Khazaria with him when he returned home to take the throne.

My plan all game was to usurp the Byzantine Empire. Eventually, with a truly, outrageously extensive invasion of Byzantium funded almost entirely by continuous capture and ransom of Greeks, I was able to settle as feudal in Constantinople and do so. The remaining nomadic lands of Khazaria fell apart immediately with clans achieving independence and their lands being nipped at from all sides, while the addition of my feudal vassals to Byzantium in addition to yet more wars for the Empire have left me in charge of this beautiful purple blob:

One will note that I'm running on a later version of EMF than y'all, and so my game's had the benefit of better HRE unification code: the [standard] HRE not only formed but inherited Aquitaine and conquered France as well. They seem stable, somehow. The AI has somehow shown me up in this game in that regard.

Other things to note about the world-state: The Abbasids deflated early in the game. The Ummayads have faced several large Zikri uprisings, some of which have succeeded, and they're now also being targeted by the Shia Pretender. The Qarluqs now dominate the Steppes. Scotland is still holding strong against the Norse, although the rest of England is in sort of a 50/50 scenario. Hungary converted to Catholicism around when I did, Greater Moravia lives on (somehow), and the Czechs have conquered almost the full extent of their traditional lands. Somehow Kiev is still surviving (and took land back from Khazaria, once I left the Horde, after I burnt Kiev to the ground decades earlier in a spit of historical revenge).

Some of you may remember from the past couple EMF changelogs that I've fixed the way province culture and religion conversion works when a nomad settles. The vanilla conversion is completely random and broken, but the idea is that your portion of the khaganate's nomadic population settles down into your provinces. I've made this settlement code convert province culture and religion in a far more realistic and aesthetically pleasing way in EMF.

Here's what the culture map looked like post-settlement in Constantinople (and keep in mind that my total population+manpower was over 100K, the proportional limit in terms of how many provinces are converted, when settling):

Next steps: Imperial Reconquest? A Khazar-Rhomioi melting pot culture (preferably with a custom portrait set)? Reconquer, fortify, and develop Crimea, Alania, and Khazaria? Go for Persia?

Haha, some major blobs there. Walk from the Caspian to the atlantic coast of Iberia, visit no less than three different states! (poor Navarre is probably hiding and pretending not to exist there so doesnt count)

If that was my game, I'd first conquer Sicily, grant it to a relative (or perhaps some outsider of some interesting culture) and release, and then go for the massive riches of the silk road-endowed Levant.

I've never liked that purple stain all across the map. i find the historical outcome for the byzantines much more interesting than what tends to happen to them in CK2. So when the Seljuks refused to take iconium despite successfully invading Armenia I began to despair. However luckily my King Hugh II inherited a claim on it, giving me a chance to control the empire for myself. This led to an invasion force being created (incidentally my navy now has the capacity for over 240,000 men. Wut.) and the extremely costly Battle of Bizye, where the English forces won despite losing 30 more men than the Byzantines.

So after Hugh took the throne it soon became clear the position was untenable. The byzantines had installed an elective succession decades ago and revoking titles was illegal. Hugh was already facing trouble back home from his vassals (though all they ever want to do is lower crown authority. I wish they were deadlier). Therefore he decided if he couldn't have the empire, nobody could, so he granted every conquered vassal independence. This meant the empire was reduced to his territories before the invasion, rendering it forfeit.

This is the state of the former empire 70 years on.

I don't know what people were so worried about with Byzantium being the last defender of Christian Europe. The Muslims don't really seem arsed.

Wow, that's a lot of border gore :(

Zijis screenie appeals a lot more to my neat freak. Such tidy borders :)

Well given their crown laws they seriously wanted autonomy, so I gave it to them. I didn't like that they were essentially winning against the Muslims without any extraordinary individuals/events too. They even took jerusalem, which set off the crusades.

There's also my serious hate-erection for pre-existing empires in this game.
