Sounds like a plan. Though I can't take the land from the Ottomans. The G.Horde vassalised them while we were on a truce and due to the fucked up horde mechanics I'll have to DoW the G.Horde, set the Ottomans free, then wait for the truce to go over and then once more to annex them... so no time for that.

And won't it take like for ever to get rid of that 60 inflation? Like wow... and it wouldn't be that hard without all of N.Africa invading me every 6 months.

And what about tech?

Just finished westernizing to Latin. Waiting for my next ruler to do military modernization and then planning to eat the rest of Asia. Then I plan on colonizing everything in Oceania and the west coast of the Americas to make a Pacific empire. After that, my goal is world trade domination and possibly some blob hunting (Ottomans and Burgundy look tempting).

-Ottomans are actually an empire for once, blobbing through the Balkans and Central Asia.
-The Muslim world in general is doing surprisingly well and somehow didn't get conquered.
-Burgundy owned in Europe. Otherwise, pretty boring Europe.

So I started with Tachibana in 1399 and tried to play as a pacifistic nation. Unfortunately, Ming already invaded some thirty years later and captured Settsu, some decades later Minamoto waged war on me for no reason (despite having a good relationship with me) which I ended a few days after its beginning by giving up Chikuzen. My pacifistic ways wavered some thirty years later when revolts suddenly started popping up (I’ve got the suspicion that spies were the cause) and since you can’t negotiate with rebels I saw my hand forced :(

Some time after that I claimed Minamoto’s throne with whom I had a royal marriage and a few years later their monarch died, leaving me the senior partner in our personal union. About a century later I succeeded at repeating this with Taira. In the late 16th century greed finally trumped my ideals and I waged war on Fujiwara after having been called upon by Taira with whom I had made an alliance. The rest is history (pun intended).

The only problem now is that I’m not sure how to proceed. Taira is kampaku and I’d rather not take that title forcefully from them. I would prefer to annex them but I have no idea how to do that. Minamoto, for instance, has been the junior partner in our personal union for over 150 years now :| What am I doing wrong?

Best thing to do is have high relations (over 190), be at peace and lots of prestige. Some people have also found bonuses for a large sphere of influence and good diplomatic skill of the heir.

SoI and Dip skill do help, as they add diplomatic power.

The thing is that there were at least twenty years where that was true. I had a monarch with with a diplomatic skill of 8, fought no wars at that point, always kept our relationship at least above 150 and my prestige was pretty much always at 100 because I kept hiring ninjas who then brought me the kenreis’ heads over and over again for +15 prestige each :/

At this point I’m thinking it’s a bug or something.

Yes.. I too had a Rigan empire. I managed to conquer most of TO pretty early and just expanded from there.
