yeah, that's the plan but the beginning is going to be difficult because colonization is expensive. I also need ships.
Just focus on developing your existing colonies before other nations become prominent in the surrounding area. Also, go free trade and/or shrewd commerce practice and become the leading trade power of the world. A bit of minting from that income, and you're good. If the competition for the colonies is hard, choose colonial ventures if you've got the cash, or land of opportunities if you're too poor to place that many colonists.

My first game in a while. It's not all that much yet, but we're getting there. Not quite 10 years played and I have, if I counted correctly, 24 provinces under my control, at only 17 BB and after only two wars (and the first only consisted of annexing a helpless 2PM Khmer). Somehow, Lan Xang annexed Malacca right after I had walked over all of their fortless lands. They won't be able to hold it especially now that Brunei is cutting them off, but eh. Missionary gain is awful (and so are Hindu stab costs) so I converted to Buddhist pretty early. Financial situation is lovely - Vijaya, Panduranga and Prey Nokor are some excellent provinces. I'm not sure what I'll want to do with these wrong religion Malaccan lands once they revolt from LXA though...
I'm playing a game in that area right now, as Aceh. Gonna convert everyone to Sunni, baby. :) There are a lot of colonizable provinces with a decent native population in the Indonesia area butt the trouble is as a non-Christian nation you get zero colonists, so I need to adopt the colonial ventures NI as soon as possible.

My current Muscowy game, it's 1496.
Don't look at me though, look at western Europe.

See what I mean yet?.....

Yes, that's Prussia. A bit early?
Yes, Aragon inherited Scotland.
But most of all, that's AI IRELAND!

AI Ireland happens when someone conquers an Irish province (or it can happen in the one England owns from the start), at some point a (usually) patriot rebel stack will pop up, besiege the original province, and then move on to - believe it or not - the rest of the Irish countries, even ones with Irish culture as primary. Since all minor AI's keep their force limits low during peacetime, and since their forcelimits are horribly low, the said patriot rebel stack will then proceed to destroy their troops and besiege every single province, defecting them to a single lucky Irish minor, who would then immediately meet the conditions to form Ireland - and voila.

Not really impressive, just a result of a horrible AI and (IMO at least) seriously screwed up rebel mechanic.

Also Prussia happens after Protestant reformation, and thats usually set up to happen after 1500, however there is an alternative event that can start it before that, 1495. in a heretic country (country messed up by heretic rebels?).

Sounds like a sensible explanation. I hadn't paid any attention to the area, since fighting the Golden horde for decades without manpower and for some reason tons of rebellions tends to take all my attention. I keep having a 20k manpower deficit and can't fix it, since rebel armies inflict dozens:1 casualties on my forces with maximum upkeep and generals etc all taken care of. I can't remember my ally TO having tremendous rebel problems though, but I ain't 100% sure

It doesn't have to be TO it could be any heretic allowing the Reformation to start. One of the conditions for Prussia is The Protestant Reformation. You don't need to actually be Protestant.

Yeah any country with heretic country modifier can start the reformation, even some HRE OPM (like i said OPMs in particular have very serious issues dealing with rebels, hence, youll often see them overwhelmed by rebels, usually pretenders, often heretics) - when that happens they have a chance to trigger alternative event that starts Protestant reformation. After that TO can go on its merry way and form Prussia the usual way (IIRC it also needs to switch to Protestant or something?). If you see Prussia before 1500. thats what happened 99.99% (the 0.01% being some weird bug).

Currently I have eastern tech, a young ADM 7 king, a fully buddhist and mostly accepted culture populace and a little problem: Because I've been mostly colonzing and swarming vassalisation targets with my allies and own vassals (I don't want to be at 0 BB, after all. I only had 0 BB since after winning my first war, and that was because I wasn't paying attention), I have almost no army, only 18k right now. Maharasthra used to be some middle power in foggy India, they turned huge while I wasn't looking, but only had two cores. Probably going to collapse, right? No, and because I never went to war with them, they have consolidated. At 21 provinces, they suddenly field a 70k army (used to be 20-something) and just declared on my newest vassal, bankrupt Gondwana. I was allied with Ming, but they dishonored (Manchu and Korea joined, but they're weaker than my vassal Lan Xang...) This could be ugly. I can easily mint and build up to 50k or so, but my manpower is trash as I've been colonizing in the near Pacific and building Constables, Docks and Temples, not Armories. In fact, this will be my ugliest war since a defensive dogpile against Korea, Brunei, Taungu and some minors around 1413 (which was a total victory, but only because Brunei wimp peaced out and Korea didn't expect me to sneak through China while their army that had already occupied my capital before was busy walking around fortless provinces). As a "peaceful" country in the middle of westernising... good thing is though: their NI is only Glorious Arms, so basically they, just like me concerning this war, have no NI at all. They also have high inflation while I have finally managed to get down to 0% again. I don't expect my "oh no, I can't attack that slightly bigger army, the other 40k friendly troops would never follow me"-allies and vassals to be of much use against one big force though.

It was rather anticlimatic, they offered white peace before the good fight even started and I, still just as unprepared as at the start of the war because it still was the start of the war, took the boring but secure option and accepted. I will get them for this later though. And Ming, I will get them as well for their treachery. They will be good Buddhists :)

That aragon, owning random land pieces in europe...

Yea I'm not sure what happened there, I was a tad busy with my own neighbour. Though it's possibly an inheritance of Napels, now that I think of it.

Small update on my Langobard kingdom - a kindom that rivals the Roman Empire on terms of land mass.
ahs6iyl3.jpg

After the christianization the Roman Empire was more stable than ever before, so I had to rely on the migration events to grab land here and there. The Goths, Visigoths and Burgundians spawned in Southern Europe and I had to be fast to conquer them before Rome could react - sadly, these pesky Romans managed to reclaim parts of Illyria before I could force a PU on the Goths.
After itegrating them and remaing Britannian tribes, I've converted to Nestorianism. I've lost my tribal bonus, but could finally assimilate all remaining minorities.

Later the Bulgarians spawned and took a few Roman provinces in the Balkans and near Crimea with them, so I've gained new land again without challenging the Romans - who seem to have a thing for decade-lasting Interregni.

After I've finally reached the required tech level to recruit colonists, I colonized the remaining unsettled provinces in Britain, Scandinavia and the Baltics. The Moravs and Estonians, loyal allies before the christianization, had been conquered and formed into Nestorian vassal states - I've later conquered the Sapmi and re-released them with additional provinces.

The Sarmatians are in a PU with Persia - formerly the Parthian Empire - otherwise, I'd have conquered them to redistribute some provinces to the Magyars which will convert to Hungary in a few 100 years.

jo2lm4fy.jpg

Xiongnu once borded Armenia, but the Parthians repeatedly crushed them in their hunger for more land, left unchecked by their historical arch enemy.

Could you describe this problem? Last time I've played this mod, it was an alpha and still called Steppe Wolf, so I'm not really remembering much of it.
