Current state of a multiplayer game I and a few others are involved in, year is 1563.

The power balance isn't at all what it looks like on the map. The Dutch and Italians have the biggest economies and best technology in the world, by a long shot. They also have the biggest navies after their rival, the British, lost their entire fleet in a war against the Italians. The French are trying to form an empire out of what used to be Spain and, as far as I know, intend to have hegemony over Western Europe. The Austrians were forced out of Europe by the Hansa, after the Hansa walked straight into Vienna and dismantled the HRE, causing a huge shift in power towards Germany and the Dutch. The Ottomans are continuing their conquests in all directions, hoping to unite all of the Islamic world it seems. Italy continues its plight against the dangerous natives of the Americas, losing tens of troops to the native's millions.

I'd give a screenshot of the economy but it speaks for itself if I just say that the Dutch and Italian economies combined amount to all other players combined and then some.

Being sick on x-mass isn't that bad at all. I declared myself the Tzar of all Russians and Tartars.
started as Moscow, got an early lucky PU with Sweden and formed Russia around 1440. then it was just march "east to siberia" and beyond.
all possible religious and country decisions taken just waiting to eat the rest of BYZ to declare russian patriarchate. in the 100 years to come I want to clean my western and eastern borders. might as well eat Persia yet. asia minor is mine too. nearly all provinces converted and the russian culture is spreading decently too. looking forward to austria hitting the last reform for my end game boss. (i just hope they implode or we'll be forced past ural!)

Good show, good show. Did you do the usual Byzantine strategy of declaring war on all the minors on Day 0 and then crushing the Ottomans after they've been at war with some random power?

My previous game got really bogged down around 1448 because of very dumb decisions (Such as all of you saw, taking random provinces in Castille [I only did that because they were the cheapest]) Instead, I loaded to a lucky autosave I had just before fighting Castille in that war that caused the spiralling down of my empire. Here is where I stand now in 1448

Much better position methinks. I have Holland, Lorraine, The Palatinate and Auvergne in Vassalage. I have Scotland in PU. I have Portugal in a Royal marriage (hoping to PU at some point). I have subjugation Mission against Genoa. I am in a MUCH better position this time around.

Well, Ottomans got stomped hard by Timur. Then Venice, Naples and italian minors decided to jump in (high WE). If not me though, I think Ottomans would defeat them, because they still had like 25k soldiers, but I couldn't let them do that.

Yea, that's the simplest strategy and yet, the most effective.

The ultra-colonial (Americas, India + some Indonesia), ultra-rich (12k income), ultra naval (350 strong, modern, updated fleet)

vs.

Franco-Austrian alliance
The ultra-militaristic (500k+ troops) ultra-diplomatic (80 % Europe owned or allied through vassalage or PU)

After 2 years of war with no major land combats and after reducing the allied fleet to only 5 frigates, Great Britain institutes the continental blockade.

Land in Sardinia, they can't get there without breaking the blockade.

I already occupied the Anatolia and any isolated region. Now I wait for their WE to grow, move 200k troops to Germany and prepare for fun.

Now land in Naples and fight your way north. You can create a choke point around Tuscany where you station your men and let all the Austrian and French troops march to their doom. If you're playing the beta patch, they'll run out of manpower long before you and hopefully bankrupt themselves from raising too many mercenaries.

Qara Koyunlu into Persia campaign so far, working on recreating some historic borders should be finished in next playthrough. Was thinking about editing in Cyrus the Great's banner, but I'm not sure how.

Find an image of the banner and then open it in an image editor (like paint.net, MS Paint won't do). Resize the image to 64x64 pixels, then save it as PER.tga (targa format) into Europa Universalis III\gfx\flags This will change the flag of Persia forever though, so if you want to keep the stock one for later, I suggest you just change it's name:]
