His Holiness the Pope watches over and protects the people of Europe from the heretical faiths that would seek to plunge the world into an age of decadence and immorality...

Thanks. What do "terrain_sheet_heights" and "border_cutoff" do?

If i understand it correctly (and i cant guarantee 100% that i do :D ), if you increse terrain_sheet_heights, it should basically make terrain layer visible when you zoom out further. That means that political map will appear with less "clear" or uniform colors of province owners, and you should be able to see some terrain features.

border_cutoff, and im almost 100% certain about this one, sets the distance at which you can no longer see in-between-province borders on, for example, zoomed-put politcal map.

Also note that im not sure if changing this messes up your check sum, so backup everything before trying out.

So I have been playing Ulm, using Svip as my inspiration. I did a few changes for the game itself, notably making buildings require tech equal to that of forts (so to build a workshop you need level 15 production tech). As a result it has given me an obscene wealth from my vassals, good sliders for trade only helped with that (full plutocracy to start with, and have worked my way to full free trade).

The most difficult part of the game was of course the start, it is really a mimic of Svip's scenario, you are surrounded by nations much stronger than you and even have the misfortune that Austria is guaranteeing some of your weaker neighbours. I worked my way with spies and made vassals after which I used any opportunity I could get to expand my influence rapidly.

Soon I got to a level where my vassals could best most medium power nations, then greater nations. Big players still existing is Castille, Lithuania, Portugal and England. Here is a recap of the HRE:

Year 1494 Bohemia was crushed and remade into a republic, Austria takes the Imperial Crown.
Year 1507 Austria was crushed and the new administrative monarchy of Ulm takes the Imperial Crown.
Year 1560 Wilhelm II takes the crown of Ulm, and is the current Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.

The year is now 1598 and this is Ulm.

I thought it was pretty decent for my first shot at a Greek OPM. Though it's getting close to the point where the AI's spider-web expansion is bothering me enough to make me not want to play the save anymore.

Long live our Sov-i mean Moscovian motherland, built by the people's mighty hands!

Bryansk, Ryazan and Tver are my vassals, i kinda feel sad to have to annex them eventually, they really kick ass with their 20k stacks!

Big Blue Blob.
Or Big Burgundy Blob, if they replace France. Sometimes you might even see it used as Big Byzantine Blob, or (God forbid) Big Bar Blob

I always thought it was 'Big Bad Blob', thus being more... useful in different situations.

I wasn't able to unify till the 1600's iirc. Was able to westernize once soon there after, wasn't able to finish the job(and modernize military) till the 1790s. Damn lvl6 admin monarchs were my bane in that game. I intended to unite all my culture group which I did, but it was kinda down to the buzzer, last war to annex 4province Wu and take one province from Uber Gondwana ended in 1815. The Nationalism CB that comes w/ lvl 30 Gov Tech was a life saver. Shoulda went for it sooner.

That light green patch in Siberia is whats left of the Ottoman Empire that spanned from the Balkans to there. They ended up in a PU under the Jayalarids who insisted on picking fights with me for some reason. They weren't that far ahead of me at the time(20 to 24 land tech iirc), but they had a ton of MP so I had to resort to scorched earth policies after I lost a army group or two. Burned everything west of Lake Bajkal and just waited for the WE to rack up. They eventually crumbled and were off my radar, the Jayalarids eventually turned on them as well. That was my only major threat, the European powers didn't seem keen on bothering me, but I was a paper tiger for the majority of the time span.
