In my MP game, England crushed Scotland over two wars that lasted two years a piece. It isn't as cut and dry.

Scotland seems to always win against England in 5.1...

Nice Mazovia, though!

Thanks! I made it bigger!

This first image is nine years later and status quo except for my attack on Poland.
EU3_11.jpg
Here, I expanded up into Denmark, taking Danzig and finished annexing Poland. Bulgaria fought off the Golden Horde; Eprius annexed Crete; Scotland, Hansa, and Castille have taken their bites out of England; Naples took all of its cores; Karaman regained lost Ottoman holdings; Fez is holding strong against Castille; Bohemia is munching on the Horde; Finland is taking back its proper lands; Austria took Emperor and I am now in a PU with them. It sucked hard, my heir and King died on the same day. Currently juicing up my economy and focusing on Gov/Mil tech. I will be able to Westerize after two more slider changes.

Same happens with France constantly. It seems that having cores makes it pretty likely for an AI (surrounded by AIs) to make a comeback, regardless off luck. Only when you force them to give up cores, too, will they be stunted effectively.
But managing a split empire with only naval access or landlocked parts will often fail.

This happens with England and France quite often in my games. Typically it's France winning the Hundred Years, causing an allied Scotland the ability to siege and take almost all of England, splitting everything else into minor states. Then sometime down the road, usually, Burgendy is able to do the same with France, splitting it into minor states that it spheres and vassalises later. I almost never see the original state make a comeback, but then again, I typically don't play more than a century into the game, so this could be why I don't see it. :p

Test game with today's beta. Ottomans, all settings normal, 1451.
I'm in my second 15-year regency, and Poland has just inherited Lithuania AND Hungary. :(

I've seen that kind of Poland. Watch out! Hungry is usually the regional buffer between the Ottomans and Europe.

I decided to start five simultaneous wars (including against Austria, who has most of the minor German states vassalized) and dismantle the Holy Roman Empire for kicks. I'm now tempted to -- after the truces end -- declare war on Austria again to grab the provinces I need to form Germany even though I find the color iffy.

As a side note, I pushed the Ottomans out of Asia minor.
Would you show us the political mapmode for that Europe? That Austria looks trippy and I'm interested in seeing its extents in full color. :D

AI formed Mughals?

Yeah. Timurids, all by themselves.

The Reformation has passed and things have changed for Mazovia. This once backwards Eastern nation has become Westernized under their Austrian Personal Union, before Queen Marie died and the Mazovians, through a Noble initiative, became an Administrative Republic. Mazovia formed alliances with Scotland and Finland in an attempt to gain cores that longed to be a part of glorious Mazovia.
EU3_12.jpg
Mazovia has become Protestant and very accepting of all religions, bringing in the remnants of Lithuania, Poland, and Polotsk; Finland—with the war subsidies and, much later, an alliance from Mazovia—has exerted control over Scandinavia; The Bohemian Horde has begun to attack Sibir, but revolts run rampant and their military is at half its limit; Burgundy has pushed France into the Iberian; Castille and Scotland fight for the British Isles while the Hansa slowly expands in Northern Europe; Karaman has solidified its power; Naples has become the dominate power of the Italian peninsula; Byzantium clings to old holdings on Transylvania doorstep.

I only have old screenshots I took, but what makes Austria even more disturbing than its horrible borders is the number of vassals it has.

This is how everything looks now and my plans to clean the borders. My vassals Brabant and [edit: the junior partner in my personal union,] Castille only need a few more years to form The Netherlands and Spain.

It is absolutely maddening trying to get the AI to shift possession of land and clean these borders.

Well, perfect way to cleanup borders is doing a world conquest... this way there are no borders, so everything is clean XD. Somehow it is in my games that i just tend to keep my enemies divided into as many small nations as possible, unless i want to keep them alive for my personal amusement, just to have a challenge later on the game(like keeping novgorod alive while playing poland).
