Part 3. Italy has been formed. France is my ally, Provence is my vassal and Corsica + Savoy are PU'd. Current plans are to gobble up the two merchant republics, then turn towards Trentino, Trieste and Istria and then start moving down the Adriatic coast.

I've had Malta in settlement policy for over a 100 years now, but they are still Maltese culture. How come? And why is Maltese in the Hispanic and not Latin group?

One of the things I really like with this mod is the lack of a horrible Austria/Bohemia snaking through Europe and colonizing Siberia :)

EU3_356.jpg

I think I'm finished with my Naples -> Two Sicilies -> Italy game now. Dauphine and Provence are my vassals, but I don't feel like annexing them. I'm allied to the pope (residing in Avignon) and France, and I have good relations with Bern, Schwyz and Austria (all of whom I've converted to Catholicism via war). None of my provinces are part of the HRE, and I think the Netherlands is the emperor.

EU3_353.jpg

I've renamed some provinces. Thanks to settlement policies Istria and Spalato has been culture changed, and I currently have the policies enacted in Malta (since very long...), Fiume and Gabella.

201 years and this is the day after I formed my first HRE. I started as Frankfurt and went trade economy. I rushed to Administrative Monarchy, so this is around 60 years after my government switch. I didn't force any unions, but was given one with France and one with Lithuania, my chief ally against Bohemia and Austria. You can see the countries that defied vassalization as I didn't annex any of them; just a few OPMs and Bohemia, who really hated me from several wars to release princes. 6 months ago I had only 8 HRE vassals, and I only had 8 scattered provinces after releasing Denmark, Mecklenburg, Saxony, and Luneburg. You can see where Austria spent most of its time.

@acguy: Is that Death and Taxes? I want to try that mod next.

Current Venice game showing the economic epicenters of Northern Italy and the Low Countries link by the newly fortified Venetian Road (alla "the Spanish road": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_road). The linkage proved essential to maintaining my sprawling maritime empire as it significantly boosted my naval force limit. Of course troop movement overland will now be easier too. Plus I thought it just looked damn cool.

Might as well post my Byz -> Roman Empire.

EU3_1a.png

Other countries wanted to find a route to India. The Roman Empire is the route to India. And most of India itself, come to think of it.

My borders, especially in the East, are... not very pretty, but I'll be fixing that once I pick up this session again.

Pardon my ignorance, but what mod is this? :)

EDIT: Nice Italy, by the way!

Oops.. :p

I just sorta scanned down until I saw your update and didn't read anything after that. The borders on MPM are more fluid looking, I like it!

Personally I've never liked the MPM map much; the provinces are just too... square. I much prefer the DAO map.

Hmm... I would think that these provinces are much less square than the DW standard map.

I played Mazovia for an hour today. I think I faired quite well. Three cores, eight provinces. Men at arms from Warmia and controlling trade in Lubeck.
EU3_9.jpg
Golden Horde is in the Balkans, Transylvania inherited Hungary, Crete took over most of Greece, Scotland and Tyrone teamed up on England, and I have the subjugate Teutonic Order mission.

Scotland seems to always win against England in 5.1...

Nice Mazovia, though!

Scotland vs England seems to almost entirely depend on whether you have luck nations on or not.

I think it actually depends on England's AI army positioning. Since England starts with provinces in France, it will place lots of units over there. France is huge and powerful and England's armies in France get annihilated almost every time, leaving Scotland enough time to besiege England and gain good enough war score to either release Cornwall and Wales or annex a province or 2, after which it has just enough power base to face England on its own, specially if France doesnt annex the European provinces, leaving the AI in the same circle of doom again.

Maybe it was a fluke but twice while playing with lucky nations on, Scotland took England down to 4 or 5 provinces but England came back and managed to form GB. I think that France had taken the English continental provinces though so it may have been due to that.

England can also be very aggressive. I've seen her lose numerous times and being forced to release Wales and Cornwall - even being 4-5 provinces it managed to gain back Wales and Cornwall every single time.

Same happens with France constantly. It seems that having cores makes it pretty likely for an AI (surrounded by AIs) to make a comeback, regardless off luck. Only when you force them to give up cores, too, will they be stunted effectively.
But managing a split empire with only naval access or landlocked parts will often fail.
