Couple of months ago PU's were still new to me so here's one game playing as Minamoto to utilize the PU's strategy to unify Japan. And have to say it a lot easier then using the spy-core option or diploannex lol.

This is the before shot which I was just waiting for the first ruler to die so I can inhert the provinces.

And after shot

Gotta love those PU's :D

Damn. I wasn't able as Tachibana to claim the thrones of Taira and Minamoto before they got heirs. Now I have to wait for them to get weak heirs.

I have to become shogun before I enter the last PU, right? Otherwise I can't unify Japan?

EU3_MAP_ENG_1450.1.1_1.jpg

Here's my latest in a sucession of generally failing English Protestant WC attempts, this one showing a good bit of promise though, at least at 1450.

I've PU'd Aragon, Austria, Brabant, Brandenburg, Brittany, Byzantium, Castille, Denmark, Flanders, Guyenne, Hungary, Norway, the Papal State, Poland, Savoy, & Sweden, & got a nice spread of my own regions scattered across the map (I had good luck in that Warmia, Carpathia, Ancona & Abruzzi all defected to me during some long early wars).

Relations are mostly between 100 & 120 with my PUs, & my 22 year old heir has diplomacy 8. Also, playing this game knowing Trust is an issue, I've deliberately not dishonoured any CTAs, so some of those PUs trust me well. My Empress is in her 50s, so, if I get a bit of luck & keep my wars short, I hope to inherit a good number of the PUs, probably within the next 20 years.

The highest Infamy has been thoughout this game so far has been 8 points, mostly it's been 4 or less - that let me remain Papal Controller for all bar about 3 out of 50 years, which helped a lot with some of the early PUs. I've pretty much lost hope of staying Papal Controller now though, since Restraint of Appeals/Church Taxes, but there's not a lot left to PU anyway (just Bohemia & Lithuania, once it stops being a PU junior of my PU Poland, maybe a few minor states if circumstances are right) & I can always Fab Claims, & don't need the RMs for the legitimacy.

I've just sent out my first colonists & stopped Portugal doing so by sinking their navy a few wars ago, so should be sole coloniser for a few decades at least. A PU'd Castille takes ages to start colonising.

I managed to disband the HRE a couple of years ago, so can do whatever I like in Europe, only the Timurids (who have occupied but not yet seized Ottoman territory bordering mine) are any sort of threat.

I'm currently resting then vassalising as the Royal Missions to do so come up, using the -2 Infamy to pay for planned expansion into the Middle East. I'm looking at Mecca & Judea for the extra missionaries, I've vassalised the Papal State, so can take Rome in a few years. GB should be formed in about 10 years time.

You can try using spies to get pretenders for them to get low legitimacy and there you can claim throne or fabricate claim.

You don't have to be Shogun to enter the last PU but need Shogun to unify Japan.

The funny thing now is, that i have PUs with all three of them, I am the Shogun, my relations with them are soaring through the roof, my army is bigger than each one of theirs, same for my fleet, and I still dont inherit them on my monarchs death. The PU just continues.

The Kingdom of Jerusalem, 1688. Unfortunately, the game didn't last much longer after that.

View attachment 45555

I started out as Castille, rushed the Holy Land and formed Jerusalem pretty early on. Easily one of the hardest starts I've found in this game. No troops, wrong culture, zero income, and everyone you border wants to murder you. Some long waiting, heavy use of spies, and a good alliance with Castille and Venice, and I managed to survive and thrive, taking a good bite out of the middle-east.

Shortly after this point (1688) Persia declared war. It would have been a survivable war had The Ottoman Empire not decide to jump in to the fun with their alliance of basically every muslim country near me. Then Venice (who was not my ally by this point) and her ally Hungary, figured they'd take a piece too. By 1700, the Kingdom of Jerusalem was eliminated, and my game was over.

Fun things to note from the map:

Austria was annexed by Styria, and the HRE grew fairly large on French duchies after the collapse of France. Armagnac is a colonial superpower. Huron ate Iroquois, and I'm not 100% sure how, but even snagged territory from England after a couple wars. Seeing as England hasn't formed Great Britain yet, I'm assuming they have had their share of trouble. The Ottoman Empire is a republic. Ming grew rather large at one point, then next time I looked they exploded. They vassalized the Oirats and somehow the Khazaks and Chagatai both have Celestial Empire governments. Denmark ate Sweden and Norway early, and never imploded. They've been in a constant state of stalemate wars with Novgorod for most of the game. And to top it off, I had nothing directly to do with Greece (a republic) forming, and forming so nicely.

On a side note, making the map was a lot of fun!

Dude. That map is amazing. Incredible work.

I had 200 relationship with all 3 when I inherited them. My best bet for you is to reload and hire a level 6 Ambassador advisor and wait till your shogun dies. Another thing is to make sure you're not at war with anyone or it won't work.

I am currently playing as Bosnia. I have shaped the whole of Europe, by basically carving the path for Novgorod to form into Russia, by helping England form the UK, by helping Castille form Spain, by helping France keep alive, by making Algiers control all of Northern Africa and by helping form the HRE.

Novgorod has been my ally since the 1399. We have been working together by spreading the Orthodox religion around the world. I have strong alliances with Algiers, France and even The Knights. What I am about to do is launch a world war on The Holy Roman Empire. These are the sides:

Axis:
HRE
Spain
UK
Ottomans

Allies:
Bosnia
Russia
France
Algiers
The Knights
Pskov

There was a lot of luck involved.

Well Hungary was really busy, so I took them down right at the start, that allowed me to about triple my manpower. I then quickly annexed the other OPM and 2PMs in the area around me. Novgorod helped in a few wars, and I helped them expand into the golden horde. Russia was formed about 15 years ago, and they have been a massive help with their manpower (80K armies walking around).

[EDIT]

Oh, and dont mind the little 8K armies on all my borders. I am just about to merge them.

[[EDIT]]

AI Agressiveness is on very high. That might explain a bit.
