Austrian problems ? Solved Ottoman problems ? not even once.

After wiping with Venice 2 times yesterday it finally worked out okay, in hindsight I could have taken Lombardy and formed Italy within the timeframe of the demo, but I was too busy watching my troops occupy Austria to take in terrain mode, always fearing another Austrian megastack would appear from somewhere and kill my underpaid troops and then waiting two years for enough diplo points to actually take that much of Austria.

Also the AI formed Commonwealth looks pretty cool.

It's pretty fun.
Needs some more work though in terms of balance, the religion and culture change over is simply too fast, they need to be at least doubled, core gain needs to be slowed down a little as well, maybe to 1.5 times where it is now.
Otherwise I enjoyed the AI actually being a threat.

Yes, he has... also, he's Hungary, and the year is 1590.
Demo hacking? Not my thing.
I also really like the Vanilla map, it makes me feel like I'm playing a different game rather than a mod to EU3, and IMO it looks better. But that's just my opinion

I just want to say that this demo is kicking my ass. Holy crap. The Ottomans invaded me...I was ENGLAND. So much for naval superiority.

This is my Venetian (sort of) empire in 1511. After that, I conquered Lombardia, Firenze, Modena and Ferrara, almost unifying all of the lombard Culture. Couldn´t take a Picture Before that stupid screen came up though. Speaking of which....



Not to shabby.

Early in the game, the Ottomans rolfstomped me and took almost all my provinces in the balkans except Istria. After I recovered, I set my sights on trying to unify North Italy. In the end, I almost managed. (I also took a Swiss province and cultureconverted it to lombard.)

I played the Ottomans. I was in the middle of another war with Egypt when the game was about to end, so I could only take Dumyat and Alexandria; I would've taken much more if I had 1-2 more years to finish the war. At one point, I faced a coalition of Mamluks, Aq Koyunlu, and Venice. My super admiral basically captured the entire Venetian and Mamluk fleets, and so I had the largest navy in the world by far.

Anyone manage to form Netherlands as Austria yet?

I just gave it a shot - getting hit with two stab hits and a 14 year, 0 admin regency council put that idea to bed, but just running the numbers, it seems quite doable.

-10 ADM tech is the biggest hurdle - depending on various factors that's about 400 points x 4 levels = 1600.
-You start at -1 stability and need at least +1 to culture shift, so another 200 points, if you don't get any lucky events/hire an artist.
-Capital shift is 200 ADM.
-The only additional core you need is Utrecht - you own Holland, Zeeland, and Breda, and can easily reconquer Friesland and Gelre. 100-ish ADM to core Utrecht.
-Then just release Tyrol and flog off some excess Austrian provinces to Venice + Hungary, culture shift, and form the Netherlands! Why? Why not?

So that's 2100 ADM, give or take over 28 years - so an average of 6.25 ADM per month, which could easily get cut down significantly by discounts from advisors for the tech and such. Even though you start with a 2 ADM ruler and a 2 ADM heir, it probably would only take a little luck to kill both of them off and get a decent regency council, and Austria is rich enough to afford a level 3 advisor, switching out when you need a stab or tech discount. I even got an event on my second ruler which gave me a 6 ADM heir, who would've grown up by about 1516 or so, but sadly the 0 ADM regency council ruined that.

Unless I'm missing something (like sharply increasing ADM tech costs - I didn't quite get far enough to see all of them), this doesn't actually seem that hard with a little more luck than I had.

My first try as the Ottomans. I decided to be friendly with the Europeans and head towards Egypt and Persia. A bit of overextension but nothing the Ottomans can't handle Iraq was me, just for the laughs. Great fun, thanks Paradox for the nice demo

Would have played the demo but I am so excited about it that I don't want to spoil anything for me. Too bad it will be released at around 21:00 here in Australia on the 13th and I have classes on the 14th and 15th for the whole day and work on the 16th until the afternoon

Venice. Sold Dalmatia to Hungary to avoid wars with the Ottomans and release the Greek islands as the Byzantine Empire after Austria dow'ed me for badboy ('punitive war') at a really bad time when I had rebels everywhere. More 10 years and I would have taken the whole Italy. I had truces and fabrications going on when the game ended, all provinces cored except Ferrara. It was a good game.

I got unlucky with the administrator adivsor at the beginning, only a +1. So i couldn't tech administration tech 7 for second idea and increasing the empire. I'm standing shortly before level 6 Navy Idea and with better adminstration start, it should be possible to get 2 level of a miltary tech.

I conquered the marmelucks and annex chimera, and hold all my starting cores. Every province is core. I try a second run with better start.
