If it's possible to do so, I'd like to play as a newly independent India (possibly with Independence war), and liberate all the European possessions in RotW, inviting new members to my faction as I go.
Not for a first campaign though.

A neutral faction led by Switzerland. They will have the neutral political ideology and will fund neutral coups across the planet.
I know you cant do this but I think it would be awesome. Playing as a neutral faction and whenever anyone declares war or does anything aggressive you immediately invade them and install a neutral gov.
All hail the neutrals. Or don't.

I'm not really that much of a faction creator usually. I mostly know what I want to conquer, and my faction members will mostly be my puppets. Though there are some really great ideas in this topic. I'm really interested in trying the German-soviet faction though, and possibly the US joining the comintern could be a fun US game.

I'll play as the US. As soon as I possibly can, I will improve my relations with Japan, which will be played by a friend of mine.

Japan will start up its usual wars, while I start on down the path towards War Plan Red. Once Japan has begun wars against all of its finalized belligerent in southeast Asia, I will invite Japan into my faction, the Pan-Pacific Powers. We'll engage in open trade and lend-lease along an insanely safe set of routes for the size of the area.

Japan will take pretty much every European possession east of India, while I'll take the British posessions in the Americas, including Canada (aside from the Falklands, which I will give to Argentina after Britain capitulates).

Capturing their colonies will not be enough to bring about unconditional surrender from Britain, however. To this end, near the start of the game I will guarantee Ireland's independence, and once the Pacific and Americas are free of British influence, we will invite the Irish Free State into our alliance, converting the Pan-Pacific Powers into the Anti-Anglo Alliance. From Ireland, we'll pretty much obliterate Britain, especially since Japan's and the US's fleets, combined, can blockade the British Isles rather thoroughly.
I posted this prior to this past World War Wednesday. It now turns out that I can't engage in War Plan Red while being democratic, so this plan needed to be changed accordingly. Here's the current version:

The first thing I'll do will be the same: improve relations with Japan, but I'll then take the step of hiring ministers that will set me on the path towards Fascism. My friend playing Japan will boost fascism's popularity within the US; we might also be joined by someone playing Italy, in which case they will also boost fascism's party popularity. If all of this allows fascism to win before the election of 1940 (assuming that's how the game works and this is even possible), then I'll let it run its course and convert over in 1940. If not, then once the party is sufficiently popular then my friends will stage a coup, to which I will immediately surrender as the democratic side and then rejoin, taking over the fascist side (assuming the national focus tree is kept intact).

From there, I launch into War Plan Red. I think the approach I'll take is to reach the embargo against Britain before launching into limited rearmament, and then finishing the War Plan Red progress once both branches have reached a stage that lets me enact Strike Against the Empire.

The reason I was going to start the faction before was because Land of the Free prevents me from joining a faction led by a different ideology. However, since I need to become fascist to enact War Plan Red, that means I can join a custom faction that Japan will make as a result of its national focus tree. That gets us formally coordinating in-game much earlier than under the original plan, and it opens up a variety of targets for Japan (Indochina, Siam, and India)!

It'll also be far easier for me to launch into other territories that interest me, such as Greenland or perhaps Mexico (especially if Pax Americana isn't shut off to me as a fascist).

Beyond that, our new plan is largely identical to what I've quoted above (including the names Pan-Pacific Powers and Anti-Anglo Alliance, and using Ireland as a staging area for an invasion of the British Isles).

Why is it not possible to do War Plan Red as a democracy?
It is rather old but This dev diary shows that it is a path of national foci you can go down as the states.

There was a split second where the cursor moused over the first stage of War Plan Red during the last World War Wednesday:

The East Indies faction. The Netherlands leads Portugal and Japan in old-school colonial conquest while all the losers are stuck doing this "European War" stuff. A combination of direct invasions, threats, purchases, and exchanges for support a la Bases for Destroyers (if the game can deal with it).

Netherlands takes South Africa areas and the southern Pacific, Portugal gets the rest of Africa, Nihon takes northern Pacific and China, and South America gets chopped up appropriately.
Oh, and Manchukuo and Mongolia get back their Soviet-held outer lands at the end of it all.
