At a glance I'd say no. However to be certain you need to give us more information about the CPU. The Core2 Duo brand has been around for many years and several generations. Can you give us a part number (ie 2500, i5-3750 or i7-6900)? Also your graphics card is below the GTX 260 in the minimum specifications.

To rank the parts I use this list http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html and the 9800 GT somewhat outdated now.

The minimum specs on Steam right now are as follows. Your CPU is below the minimum speed and the GPU is slower than the GTX 260.

Minimum:

  • OS: Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7/8/8.1 (64-bit)
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo, 3.0GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+, 3.2GHz
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: nVIDIA GeForce GTX 260, 512 MB or ATI Radeon HD 5670, 512 MB (Does not support Intel Integrated Graphics Cards)
  • DirectX: Version 9.0c
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 4 GB available space

I'm not holding out much hope for this but...

Processor
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2320 CPU @ 3.00GHz

Video Card
Intel(R) HD Graphics (2000)

RAM
8.0 GB

Operating System
Microsoft Windows 10 (build 10586), 64-bit

I read somewhere that windows 10 is not support is this right?

Also if anything is going to let me down it will be my video card, is this likely to be replaceable or is it integrated? My knowledge on hardware is slim to none.

It is supported on Win 10 because I run it. However the graphics card you have won't work.

The Intel HD cards are integrated into the CPU. You need a dedicated GPU of sufficient quality to run the game.

Shouldn't have any problems running the game with decent settings.
Well that's good to hear. One concern is that I was playing a snow map and at nighttime, my computer's fans started racing like really fast. I was looking at the temp. and it hit 90 degrees Celsius. I'm afraid to do that again. So far it only seems to happen at night and when there's a lot of snow.

The AMD FX series all run a lot hotter than their Intel counterparts. If the fans are spinning up its because the CPU is getting hot. My knowledge of the AMD architecture isn't great, but as long as you're below 80C core temperature you should be ok. The night and snow makes me think it might be the graphics card getting a big workload. Make sure you've not got the heat sinks covered in dust. If you can, find a way to monitor the temperatures while you're playing to see which is running hotter than normal. If its the GPU then turn down the graphics, if its the CPU then you're going to have to run the game at a slower speed.

Okay thank you for the tips. I've never had a higher end computer before so I've got questions. I do have one other question, I've been using Afterburner to monitor the temps and I was wondering if there was anyway to check and see which one is the CPU temp and the GPU temp. I probably should add that while playing the game the temp is at average 80-85, 87-90 if there is snow.

MSI Afterburner is a GPU piece of software as far as I know. For CPU and GPU temps, I use Speccy.

I wanted to thank you for recommending speccy . I used it while playing the game and sure enough I got snow and I tried it at a high speed. My CPU was at 32 and my GPU went up to I think 84 but it was actually up and down in temperature but stayed within the 78-84 range. I'm assuming it's not terribly bad but it's not really good either. I have everything on high are there any settings I can turn down to make it easier on my GPU?
