I'm trying to decide between two computers and I wanted to know if either or both will run Cities Skylines:

Intel Core i5 6200U 2.3ghz (Turbo boost up to 2.8ghz)
nVidia GeForce 940M 2GB
8GB DDR3 1600mhz (i can upgrade to 16gb once I buy it)
-or-
Intel Core i7 6600U 2.6ghz (Turbo boost up to 3.4ghz)
nVidia Quadro M500M 2GB
8GB DDR3 1600mhz (again i can upgrade to 16gb once I buy it)

I would get a quad-core except that I need a Convertible laptop for college.

Thanks a bunch,

6200U is weak (2.3GHz) and the 940m is weak as well with only DDR3 memory.

6600U is a little better at 2.6GHz and the M500M is a loittle worse then 940m.

8GB is basically bare minimum.

You can play it, you will struggle to get 9-tiles full on lowest graphics settings and no workshop at all. These are ultra-low powered laptops, or high powered tablets. Not for gaming, The M500m is a professional graphics card designed for CAD, Photoshop, and high end graphics programs.

You'll need higher end systems for better results. Those laptops are designed for mobility and long battery run times. Gaming will likely shorten battery life to under an hour.

Higher end system probably will struggle for half an hour run times.

Laptops are designed for gaming. The gaming ones need to be plugged into the wall and well ventilated.

Actually, it isn't normal and sign of low quality parts. They usually make noise when pushed near or past their limits or are just low quality parts used. They typically will be fine, but if it's new I'd return for a different one. It could die/crash/cause random issues at any moment if you don't know why or what is making the noise. If you got a good price and willing to gamble, then that is fine.

CPU: Intel i7 6700HQ @ 2.6GHz
RAM: 16 GB DDR4 2400MHz

GPU: Nvidia GTX 970M 6GB GDDR5

SSD 240 GB

Yes, you are way above minimum requirements and even recommended requirements. You should have no issues with the game.

Yo. been forced to get a I7 6700 over a I7 6700k.

Got a 1070 GTX to go with it as well as 16 gb Kingston Fury ram 2133 GHZ.

Is my I7 6700 3.4 ghz ( boost to 4ghz ) will be able to handle a full city ? ( meaning with all tiles unlocked by the mod, some assets / props from workshop ) ?

How does it run on 2000 mods/assets loaded is the only one I am interested.
8 GB is a bit too tight for 2000 assets :D, but the i7 should handle quite heavy mods. Graphics wise also good.

I have an desktop with an i7 6700k, GTX 970 and 16 GB RAM. I also have about 60 mods and 500 assets. With a city of 100k population the framerate varies from 60 to 20.

I'm sure the game crashes by then. I hear 8GB limits on used workshop items. at 2,000 I'm sure most are doing nothing but using up ram. The most I've heard is 700ish workshop items active in game. I have had 295 or so myself actually used in game at a little over 7GB for the cities.exe process. This was with 750 assets loaded at startup with about 40 mods. but as I said only 295 assets were being used in-game. It was also using 15GB memory for cities.exe, but I removed all redundant workshop items and it played much smoother with only 7GB usage.

Test with Screen Loading Mod and read the guide for it to allow loading only used assets.

Had so much hope. Already had the mod install but only for load screen report, but when I set it to load only used, it still jumped to the same 10.7gigs of ram in the map editor.

Sorry for posting this question if it's been answered somehwere here already, but here goes.

I currently have an FX-4100 (I know, not the best) and am thinking about upgrading once I can afford it. This is what I had in mind: New motherboard (obviously lel) with hopefully the new Kabylake top tier i7, 16 GB RAM. Does having an i7 give better performance than having a new processor that is i5? I will be running tons of mods and assets mind!

I currently have a GTX 970, so I feel covered there.

I also have a question about the functionality of an SSD. I used to have CS installed on my SSD, but I didn't notice any significant improvement in speed of loading and such. Is there a technical reason for this?

EDIT: I currently have around 70 mods, and perhaps 500 ish assets? I'd probably get way more after upgrading, so there is that to remember!

Hi guys! these are my specs:
AMD A8-7600 3.1ghz quad core
16gb RAM
AMD Radeon R7 graphics(which I believe are integrated unfortunately) but my main question is, if I upgrade my gpu to a gtx 750ti and a new psu will that help to make things run more smoothly and not cause as much lag? I can't play past 100k and it's driving me insane! I absolutely love and must have mods, they greatly change the game. I have money and just need the advice, thanks a ton! Pm if you have further questions and think you could help :) thanks again
