Those are fine, but they are thin laptops and prone to overheating. If you can afford it, get the thicker ones with better cooling.

A GTX 1660 or better would help sustain 30 fps better. My latest desktop only has a GTX 1650 and gets roughly low 20 to high teens zoomed into a city intersection. Adding workshop will lower those numbers quickly. usually in half or worse depending on your addiction. lol

I assume you already play this game on a rig? Can you post it's specs and amount of workshop for comparisons so you will know a little more what to expect.

This minimum or Recommended setting is for what large city?

Same as all games, being able the play the vanilla game to competition, but sadly minimum has never been able to do this, and not by a long shot.

What do you mean by "slow"

And what kind of RAM you will Use - And Why no GPU?!

1. Slow simulation - speed 3 is same speed as speed 1, car and cim dont move fast in in speed 3

2. Some cheap 8gb ram because i dont really want to play mod. My last pc that i donated play normally with 8 gb ram ( core i5 2400, 8gb ram, gtx 650tiboost)

3. I think the integrated gpu is good enough for light gaming, just wondering if it is possible, i am out of budget.

  1. At some point everyone will experience a slow down in their game. Although that depends on system spec's.
  2. You can still play with 8 GB RAM, just increase your page file up to 24 GB RAM. Although best would be to invest in minimum 16 GB RAM.
  3. Integrated GPU's are not supported by this game. Investing into a cheap GPU is more than enough.. you do not need the latest GPU on the market for this game.

I am going to buy a budget pc with spec

Ryzen 5 2400g, No gpu, 8gb ram, 550w psu

I dont plan to mod yet.
How many population / land mass do u think the simulation start to slow

Thanks

The 2400G is a 4-core/8-thread CPU and the game is designed to use a max of 4-core/8-thread CPUs. So you should be fine.

8GB RAM is very little for integrated graphics (iGPU). Your graphics will consume 3GB of that memory off the top so it can run the graphics. This is a big reason why iGPUs aren't typically supported, as this can cause a lot of issues. Now you are left with 5 GB of usable RAM. This is going to be a chore for the game to run effectively, especially as your city grows. The base game alone uses over 10 GB of memory. That is twice your remaining RAM.

Also, memory speed and type is important. You have 64-bit memory which is low volume, plus it is very slow DDR4 memory. A dedicated video card should have 128 bit memory bandwidth, so it will process twice the data. Plus GDDR5 video RAM (vRAM) which is significantly faster as well (approximately 3 times faster.)

Too bad you didn't keep your GTX 650 Ti Boost. It would be much faster than iGPU and not use up any of your precious RAM. If you can get it back, you will be golden.

Not sure if you can return your RAM and get faster, then you can get better performance. I went from DDR4 2133 to DDR4 3200 and got about 50% more performance and from a little lag, to almost none except busy areas. Plus I overclocked the iGPU and I was lag free. I had the 2200G (4-core/4-thread)

You should do quite well on your 2400G, than I did on my 2200G. You should get a full 9-tiles with a little lag. But it should be playable.

Definitely avoid the workshop completely.

If you haven't purchased it yet, I'd replace the:

2400g, with a Ryzen 1600 (or 2600 or 3600, they are the same 6-core/12-thread CPU with slight improvements to each generation)
16 GB RAM with 3,600 MHz speeds max. 3,000 (2,933 Mhz) MHz min.
A Radeon RX 570 4GB dedicated GPU or better.

I have already bought my new PC last February and only resumed my Cities: Skylines work this July. But I ran into RAM and FPS issues on certain projects so I have been considering upgrading my brand-new rig.

These are the specs after upgrade:
  • Intel Core i7-9700 @3.00GHz
  • 32 or 48GB of DDR4 RAM (with 48GB of virtual memory)
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660Ti @6GB of VRAM
The only difference is RAM increased from 16GB to 32GB, and the graphics card from 1050Ti into 1660Ti.

The upgrade is for more assets and graphics mods like Dynamic Resolution and LOD Toggler mod.

Hello,

Looking to purchase a new PC immediately for optimal playing performance of Cities: Skylines. I've been kicking the can down the road for years now and need to pull the trigger. Looking to spend no more than $2,000.00 US on a PC that will support mods and overall best performance for graphics, speed, etc. Thanks for your help. Not an expert.

What are your current specs, and what issues do you have now? What other games do you play a lot?

There is a lot of new hardware coming out next month or so. Including new consoles with 8-core/16-thread CPUs. So this will need to be minimum specs.

I'm starting from scratch. No computer in my possession other than my phone currently. I don't expect to play any other games other than Cities: Skylines. I want to dedicate the PC to optimal C:S performance. Looking for the best. Recommended for the game:
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-3470, 3.20GHz or AMD FX-6300, 3.5Ghz
  • CPU SPEED: Info
  • RAM: 6 GB
  • OS: Microsoft Windows 7/8 (64-bit)
  • VIDEO CARD: nVIDIA GeForce GTX 660, 2 GB or AMD Radeon HD 7870, 2 GB (Does not support Intel Integrated Graphics Cards)
  • PIXEL SHADER: 5.0
  • VERTEX SHADER: 5.0
  • FREE DISK SPACE: 4 GB
  • DEDICATED VIDEO RAM: 2048 MB

The game's recommend system specs aren't enough for this game. If you want the full experience you need an i7 or ryzen 4-core/8-thread CPU.

You'll need 32gb of RAM if you are planning on using a lot of workshop. assets can go through memory quick. and a lot of mods may need a 6-core/12-thread cpu or better for better performance.

Maybe post a budget, and we can offer suggestions on a build.

Thanks for the information. I am open to a build that matches the specs you listed. I'd like to spend under $2,200.00 USD.

That will be very easy with 2,200 dollars. You could build a very nice rig with quality components and even some fancy LEDs if that interests you.

Do you already own a desktop that you can reuse your monitor, keyboard, & mouse?

I am open to a build but would prefer something that I can order ASAP, ready to go.

I have no equipment to speak of in which to reuse. Starting from the ground up.

Thanks for your insight.

Here's a Dell Alienware Ryzen system. I chose Dell as I have always had great tech support experiences.

It has a Ryzen 7 3700X CPU (8-core/16-thread CPU to match new consoles that will be released soon for the holidays)
32 GB RAM (3,200MHz)
GTX 2060 Super
512GB SSD and 2TB data drive.
free keyboard and mouse.
Dell 27-inch Monitor with IPS panels for bright color and good viewing angles. and 75Hz for true 75fps support.

It's $1,900 it currently says free shipping. and tax was $150 for me. so not sure if your state collects online taxes like mine does.

If you can afford it, I'd recommend the 1TB SSD with 2TB HDD.

I can't seem to link the shopping cart.
