Whenever 1066 rolls around, I like to see how messed up history has become. Let's first start off with the point of this thread and show off my beautiful Buddhist empire:

urUuMU2.jpg

Stretching from the heart of India (for some reason, I can't subjugate CB that final kingdom)...

REGYQFR.jpg

...through Afghanistan and Khiva...

qm11XBh.jpg

...and finally, a foothold in Europe. Beautiful Buddhist Holy Wars with 5 year truce times. I'd have expanded more, but I had to put conquest on hold for two years to defend against a Holy War back home. I might have to do the same again, since my Half-Brother is raising an adventurer party against me and I cannot plot against him. Thanks for dying prematurely after doubling our borders, dad!

And now, the interesting weirdness of the world in 1066, and some frightening developments.

H0looHd.jpg

SHAIBAN. The only thing I fear in the dark. They've Holy Warred on me once, and I won by the skin of my teeth by holing ALL THE LEVIES up in the mountains of their border provinces, letting attrition eat away their stacks and threatening to combine my armies should they try to act on one. They're absolutely frightening: a hundred thousand men available to my 60,000 on a good day, and children rulers do not have good days. Sunni at 100 authority, and they've survived revolts that encompassed half their realm. I think I might actually let them have Africa and Arabia and make them my major rival in EU4.

Also, can Byzantine REALLY be the Eastern Roman Empire if they've been forced back into Italy?

qm11XBh.jpg

The state of Europe. So much for William's invasion of Normandy. The Francia's are what you would expect, Eastern Roman Empire has become West again (they went back and forth between Orthodox and Catholic, and for a time Italy was almost all Orthodox. The Orthodoxy has since become nearly extinct), and Poland splattered intensely into Ruthenia before drying up. I'm sure they would have recovered from the Second Muslim Invasion eventually... had not Buddhism been brought to them by the sword.

And seriously, Buddhism is spreading in Europe faster than it is in India. I'll never be rid of those demon-worshipping Hindus.

And finally, since you all love them so much...

Karlings. Now in royal purple.
The Lockheart and Gutierrez dynasties seem pretty cool, too.

This game has been bananas.

Here is my Ironman Saffarid Zoroastrian Empire:

2014-09-01_00010.jpg

This was of my most challenging games yet. Fighting off Islam after converting was quite the task. Good thing the Shia invaded the Caliph otherwise I would never have gotten this far. Yaqubid is what's left of the Sunni Caliphate the Ishan are the Shia. They steam rolled Ethiopia together and we had a three way fight between us for a while but I managed to come out on top. With a renewed Catholic Byzantium along the Theocracy of Italy launching a Crusade upon the Sunni I was able to take Mesopotamia without too much trouble. Now I'm on to bring the fire of Zoroaster to Rajastan.

That is very cool. Gives me an idea about an alternate Byzantine playthrough. Is the Karling in Italy Catholic or Orthodox?
They used to be Orthodox and nearly converted all of Italy to Eastern Rites, but have since switched back. Orthodox now only exists as one or two minor Russian counts.

First ruler dies 3 years into his reign. Hooray! Second ruler unites Tamilkam in 894. Been more or less stuck in those borders ever since, desperately trying to muster the 500 Karma required for subjugation CB.
And boy did I get it once. Invaded Rasthakuta with 12k soldiers. I defeated several of their armies, until I was in combat with my 8k against their 6k. I lose. My army is pingponged to death. I have to give up. That was in early 900s. I still haven't had the chance to try again because I 1) keep getting shitty rulers who get very little Karma 2) those same shit kings die all the time.

Mr. Failed-Foolproof-Invasion died in his late 60s, succeeded by a guy who had sinful traits resulting in way too little Karma to even consider invasion. Succeeded by a guy who died at 400 karma. He had a great martial son but he died of depression in his 20s. Succeeded by his spymaster brother who was hated by all but one person in the realm. He died when his successor was still a child. Now he is on the throne, crappy stats once again.

Meanwhile in Rasthakuta there was a Genius queen, an infant. But because Hindus can't f- divorce, my heir was landed and his heir was in his court so I couldn't marry him to the queen, that opportunity was gloriously wasted.
Though to be honest, it seems that marrying female rulers is impossible now since they all prefer Matri marriages. Then they proceed to marry some random courtier in regular marriage.

Hindus are kinda shit when the only good CB they get is one-shot and takes like decades to get. Why don't pagans need 500 piety for Subjugation?

Because pagan loose their subjugation after reforming religion.
You can use hindu subjugation until you will unite entire India.

If my experience as the Pandyans is any indication, then the Tamils are a very tough start. But fun :).
Usually I don't mind sticking to a small realm but this time I'm pissed at my slow progress because I wanted to become Zoroastrian. And I refuse to play anyone else but Tamils, I ain't none of those damn Indo-Aryan invaders. I'm true Indian yo. Dravidians FTW.

But yeah, but the time I reach Gurajat Zoros will most likely be extinct. My next attempt will probably be Nestorians, I will send my heir to the patriarch of Antioch.

Well, Zoros do tend to have sticking power in Central Asian provinces. If you can make it to Samarkand, you can hopefully move your capital and convert.

My little kingdom:
AA059B720AD38B80D2A0B0C30EB1E7C498AB59F2

I started as customized Duke of Transylvania in 1066.
Byzantine Empire, Rus, Suomi/Finland and Golden Horde are only Orthodox realms. Ilkhanate is Catholic (I was able to use my court chaplain to convert them).
I was able to inherit to get Kingdom of Galicia and Kingdom of Leon. I conquered Kingdom of Aquitaine (Occitania), Kingdom of Castile and Kingdom of Aragon with claims that I was able to get with marriages. My wife is currently ruling Kingdom of France and she is heir of Kingdom of Ireland. Kingdom of Birodalom (Wallachia) and Kingdom of Galicia are elective monarchies, other kingdoms are primogeniture monarchies.
My oldest son (my heir) is married to current heir of Byzantine Empire (this can change if current emperor get child).
My dynasty rules also Kingdom of Poland (also King of Sweden and Norway), Kingdom of Sicily, Kingdom of England, Kingdom of Portugal and Kingdom of Ruthenia (also King of Georgia).
The last Sunni realm is Mali. Other muslim realms are Shia (originally there were only one big Shia blob but somehow it splitted.

Why are there two kings of France? You and an independent.

Cool game though, I like games where you expand by making sure your dynasty is spread far and wide rather than just making a single massive blob.

My thriving republic of Frisia:

And almost all of Northern Europe has been converted to the true faith:

Some info:
I admit to cheating freely in the beginning to create my republic (with the Founder of the Republic mod) and to survive the initial onslaught of Christians. And I wanted to have the faith reformed so I just gave Harald Fairhair all the holy sites and removed them from him after the reformation. After getting settled in Frisia + Flanders I've spent most of my time and money helping all the other Asatru rulers conquer their kingdoms and defend themselves. The ones in Russia were constantly getting trampled by the locals. For once I'm trying to play a relatively non-blobbing game and going to conquer places and then when I get enough to form a kingdom I turn it over to a feudal ruler from my dynasty etc.

Just a year or two before I took the screenshots I had Normandy and Valois under my control, naturally given to Hrolfs descendants whom I had invited to my court. Then at some point I noticed that somehow I had a Karling, Norse cultured pagan Karling at that in my realm as a count. So naturally I pressed his claim to West Francia for laughs. After gaining the throne he managed to convert one of his vassals but otherwise was close to total implosion. Then my vassal, the jarl of Normandy and Valois decided to declare a subjugation war on West Francia and won. I lost two pretty wealthy duchies but now there's a pagan Norman ruler from the house of Normandy ruling the kingdom of France so actually things worked out nicely. Next I'm going to help my kinsman the king of Sicily become the high king of Italy, though it's pretty annoying that I have to edit the mod (HIP) files since a lot of titles require you to be Christian to form them.
