Eh, why not:

First the empire:

Dynasty:
V9g42Fl.png

Italy used to be Wessexian too, but I was too busy to help it's king with a rebellion and now his descendant is a duke. I played Papa Wolf for my dynasty members in every rebellion and invasion... including 5 adventurer invasions of Denmark.

Also, dynasty prestige: (apparently there's a small difference in their(Karlings) favor still...)

The game where I started as Duke of Armeniacon. I'm still King of three kingdoms (Italy, Navarra and Bulgaria) but now I'm also the Emperor of Carpathia (aka Pontic Empire). What you can't see is that the heir of Kingdom of Asturias/Portugal/Leon and the son (and future heir) of current heir of Kindom of Pomerania are both my dynastymembers.

I started my last iron-man game as a greek, orthodox patrician in the republic of Amalfi with one clear goal. I wanted to become the Byzantine Emperor and transform the Empire to a republic.

It took me around 48 years to form the Republic of Sicily (King tier titel) an additional 93 years to conquer the Kingdom of Italy and the Republic of Venice, so I could form the Italian Empire.

Through intelligent marriages and pressed claims I got the Kingdoms of Bavaria and Bulgaria into my Empire. But I still had a lot of trouble to get a claim on the Byzantine Empire.

So I played a little bit with the Islamic rulers in North Africa and conquered some land and decided to went for Taurica first. It was quite strong and had the Kingdoms of Georgia and Alania under control and a catholic ruler. But they could not resist my cataphract retinues and I enlarged my trading empire.

Finally after 308 years and 33 successions I manged to get a claim, press it and I won the succession war and became the Byzantine Emperor.

ByzEmp.jpg

Next goals:
Make Constantinople the new capital
Mend the Shism
Restore the Roman Empire
Claim the old boarders of the Empire

Not so much an empire but I like where this is going. Started as Haesteinn conquered Brittany, converted to Catholicism, became Norman and inherited Mercia. Current goal is to drive House of Wessex out of England. Don't weep for them though. Those pesky bastards inherited France and are on the verge of taking over Asturias.

Also Catholic Pecheneg Cumania.

Wow, was that a multiplayer game, or was the AI just extremely good at keeping empires together and also completely insane?

Single player, what made me laugh most was that I really was only paying attention to Franco-Iberia, I kept zooming out and being like, "Dafuq." All the mongol revolts were simply to instigate new crown laws, never independence.

"nation"... "nation"!

*twitch

nations did not exist in this timeframe. These are all Realms.

I can't believe how many people still make this mistake.

It really makes no difference what people call them. They can be called nations because they have a shared history and live in the same boundary. It can be called a realm because they are ruled by kings or queens. It really doesn't matter.

As an academic person who has studied history and politics, I can say that there are major differences which are even represented in the game.

Do explain, please.

Regardless, is it worth complaining about? I always hear people pronounce Hebrew names and words wrong on YouTube videos but I don't go in the comments and say "wow, I can't believe people pronounce those wrong!"

As someone who also also studies history and politics, I'd say that yes, the concept of the nation state didn't exist back then but the general concept of "nations" surely did. In any case, the term is clearly used here to denote different realms as an alternative title. So nothing worth nitpicking and really no need to start derailing this thread over it.

A rose by any other name muffin. The meaning communicates itself clearly, which is the point. Now if he'd called them nations instead of realms at an Academic People Who Study History and Politics-conference it would have been a different matter.

I completely agree, however...

Even though we understand what is meant, we shouldn't allow ourselves to be knowingly wrong, no? Especially when there are already much better words in our vocabulary at our disposal.

Even if we understand that I meant rose when I said muffin, I should still correct myself and start using the proper terms for that which I describe.

It is it not my intention to derail this thread, just to inspire a greater sense of accuracy for history and language's sake. By all means, keep posting the interesting worlds you have created.

Last fully completed game, using HIP w/ SWMH (And by fully completed, I mean I got bored in like 1,250). **TOTES NOT BRAGGING ABOUT THE MAP, SLANDER AND LIES, LIES AND SLANDER!!!!!!** .... *shiftyeyes*

I took some liberties making the map, mostly expanding Siberia and the Sahara to gobble up a bunch of random duchy-level lands (I forgot their names, was too lazy to reopen CK2, they were pointless in terms of affecting the game, and they made my map ugly).

Tried to keep water bodies named by the closest super power (Also listed the Mediterranean in Latin, Serbian, and Arabic [the latter two being the main powers in the sea]). Because the Normans never came, and the English got kicked out of England, the English Channel became the Mainland Channel, and the Strait of Dover became the Dutch Strait. Ditto with the Terra Incognito spots. And my translations are probably the worst ever. ^_^

Norway finally made a kingdom right before this, but they'd spent two centuries fractured into a bunch of jarldoms so their name remained "Norge Jarldoms". Took some liberties with names in German Europe, I couldn't remember the names of the two northern duchies so they became Gelderland and Rhineland (Ruled by a Dutchman and a German respectively). Saschen is actually Saxony, but I like the name better; I have no idea how Swabia ended up in Lotharingia. When the Byzantines got kicked out of Constantinople, they then lost an independence revolt in Greece and so we have a mess of Dux's in these "Greek City States". The Idrisids are actually Badshahs of Africa and Mauretania, but I renamed it to Caliphate because it made more historical sense (Competing Caliphates happened, an Arab ruler ever using the title 'Badshah/Padshah' didn't); both they and the Abbasids are Sunni.

4of1hzH.jpg

A lot of weird crap happened, the Byzantines lost Constantinople to the Seljuks (The Serbs retook it less than a decade after), but no one ever declared a Jihad for their Jerusalem. The Rus have held Poland, Kiev, Vladimir, and Galich for at least five generations, but have never created an Empire. Their current ruler's heir daughter is married to the heir to the empire of Serbia (Actually Carpathia, but I renamed it because it's completely owned by the Serbs). An adventurer won Tripolitania, there's a German Merchant Republic in Sicily (my doing), I have no idea how Alexandria is Catholic but it is.

And generally the Serbs have just been facerolling in the Balkans, consistently gobbling up Bulgaria and Hungary, marrying into the crown of Bohemia (Czechy with Serb localisation) (and now the Rus), and apparently saving Orthodoxy from the Turks and Arabs [For the record, SWMH's localisation changes Constantinople to Tsargrad when it's own by a Serb and I love that name so much more].

France, Spain, and Italy have been a disaster most of the game (Italy's just yuck); the French have fractured since the Fylkirate crossed the channel, and Spain's been the focalpoint of the Crusades (Though there was a hilariously failed one on Netherlands when the Fylkirate came to their aid). The Rus', the Serbs, and the Greko-Georgian Byzantines are Orthodox, while Britain (Welsh Britain, obviously), Scandinavia, Netherlands (renamed Kingdom of Frisia to Republic of Netherlands for my northern merchant republic), Lithuania, Novgorod, Karelia, and Estonia have all converted to Asratu. Oddly enough, Turkish Khiva went Zikri, and the Mongols appear to have gotten curbstomped (Or not shown up at all, I forget what years they spawn).

"nation"... "nation"!

*twitch

nations did not exist in this timeframe. These are all Realms.

I can't believe how many people still make this mistake.

You may study History and Politics, but I'm a graduate of English, and the definition of 'Nation' fits perfectly fine. I recognise your discomfort as the lack of the word 'realm', however it is perfectly correct. You're being incredibly pedantic.

That's actually how Constantinople is mentioned in some historical documents, considering that it was the Emperor's city, so Slavs simply called it "Emperor's City" - "Carev Grad" in modern Serbian.

That Serbian domination is so great for me, though.

And generally the Serbs have just been facerolling in the Balkans, consistently gobbling up Bulgaria and Hungary, marrying into the crown of Bohemia (Czechy with Serb localisation) (and now the Rus), and apparently saving Orthodoxy from the Turks and Arabs [For the record, SWMH's localisation changes Constantinople to Tsargrad when it's own by a Serb and I love that name so much more].

how do you make these maps?
