Not my empire per se, but I do feel responsible...
This is the first success in a string of attempts to drive the christians out of Iberia in the 1066 start. I started as the Zirid emir of Granada, and quickly swore fealty to the Zirid Sultanate for protection. I slowly expanded by taking counties from the neighbouring emirs, and defended myself tooth and nail from two holy wars and a claim war from the Hammadid emir. One turning point was me winning a holy war for Barcelona. By then, however, the Abbadid and Aftasid emirs had taken most of the other land in the peninsula, becoming almost unstoppable. Aftasid subsequently lost most of their land to holy wars, which was later taken by Abbadid, resulting in the sultanate of Andalusia. I demanded independance (which I was granted) and swore fealty to the Abbadid sultanate. Then I mopped up the weak christian opposition while my liege dealt with the other muslim realms, also usupring the sultanate of mauretania. I waited for my liege to become emperor, and he did.
The badshah soon destroyed the kingdom of andalusia, and I was one county short of creating it, until I got an unexpected vassal transfer. After creating the title, I received another two emirates. Being an ambitious vassal is awesome!
