Earlier today, or yesterday as my friends and I tend to play late into the night I found a bug by accident where I can kill anyone in multiplayer every time. I put a plot on a courtier in my court or anyone that I can definitely kill (very high plot power percentage) then when the pop up to do the deed comes up, before selecting 'Ok' to give the go ahead to kill that person, I switch my plot to kill to whoever I want to die. I tried googling this but I guess it is not very wildly shared. I did this to my friend who is a better player than me. And then two more times after that and he eventually quit. I also demonstrated it to another pal. We couldn't find the exploit on google by searching but we didn't look too hard.

I really love CK2, and I have barely scratched the surface and was looking forward to learning more about the game and playing more, but with this game breaking bug, our multiplayer experience is going to suffer greatly. I can join any multiplayer game and use this bug to cheese my game through players and AI with impunity.

Has this bug been discussed before? I know Im not the first. I would love to see this patched so I can continue this game with my friends and look forward to playing the Norse and pagans.

Also if this post doesn't go through, I cannot register the base game CD key. I also could not find another forum or subforum on here for bugs if its supposed to go somewhere else, I hope this post can be moved. But I would also hope this gets lots of exposure and everyone here uses it to ruin peoples multiplayer games so that ours can be saved :)

If anyone has trouble replicating the bug, please post here and I will tell you what you are doing wrong.

Someone told me to post the bug here : https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?forums/680
but I couldn't because maybe my ck2 steam key was redeemed with another account . I could only redeem legacy of rome. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

Edit: I'll also accept any bug bounty as my reward. Old gods please.

Seriously? This can't be true.

::loads ups CK2 as King Offa of Mercia::

This has to be a joke or something.

:: plots to kill courtier. event fires. cancels plot and plots to kill Charlemagne::

There is no fracking-

::Karl dies via poisoned drink::

.... what.

Well.... maybe the event picture is just-

::sees Karloman inherit West Francia::

.........

Wow. Does it make me a bad person that I sorta hope that they don't actually notice this and fix it now that I know about it?

Edit: To be seriously for a moment, I can totally see why this has not been detected until now. I frankly can not think of a circumstance where one would even think to try this method.

How exactly did you stumble on it?

This is not a bug but I think it's a useful exploit nonetheless, unless I'm playing nomads completely wrong and gimping myself in the long run here. I recently started playing again and took a shot at playing some nomads and they still seem really broken. Since there's a difference between nomadic and non-nomadic relations you can farm your conquered vassals for money before (if you chose that at all) razing them. You can just imprison and ransom them over and over and your fellow khans won't raise an eyebrow while you squeeze 200-300 gold out a lowly mayor or bishop who just took out a loan. It is incredibly repetetive to do but it allows you to squeeze out up to nearly a thousand gold per province after a good subjugation, not counting the cash you get for razing. If you want more, just revoke the titles after you're done, create a new vassal and wait for them to take a loan. You only need to siege once as the garrison will only be one man 'strong' after multiple rebellions from failed imprisonments.

... when the pop up to do the deed comes up, before selecting 'Ok' to give the go ahead to kill that person, I switch my plot ...

I encounetered something similar in the single player game, though never thought that it's a bug, as I did a reverse situation.
I had a plot going, a message about a murder attempt popped up and I realized that I need to cancel the whole plot (political reasons). So without confirming the attempt, I canceled a whole plot, then approved the attempt and it never happened. Neither a success nor a failure.
Now when I think about it, it should be difficult or even impossible to cancel running murder attemp; Alea iacta est - just wait for the outcome and only then cancle the whole plot.

Oh, I don't know ... I agree that the exploit should be closed by the developers, but in the meantime it seems like one of those things that can be fixed by just not doing it. It's not the bug ruining your multiplayer games, its your inability to control yourself.

You used to be able to do similar this with council events, on the popup just move the council member to the new location then accept event and it will happen at the new location. Actually useful if you already fabricated a claim as you can move the chancellor if you forget to move him.

You not using the exploit is not the problem, being sure that all your "friends" aren't using it is. You could be playing along honestly then get taken out by an assassin - was it a valid kill or was it your friend cheesing the exploit for whatever reason (laughs, revenge, payback etc).

Having/knowing about a game breaking bug can really ruin the mutual trust required for an MP game to work.

You can still do this. Every so often if I change my mind on which county I want the fabricated claim for, I just move my chancellor before hitting "Use It!".

Considering what the OP figured out, I wouldn't be surprised if other targeted decisions like that couldn't be switched to a new target before the confirmation. Now I'm wondering if the Way of Life foci work like that as well...

So I've noticed. I was expecting some harsh succession crises but nothing happened - here's your new Khan, everybody is already happy with him. Conquering has no penalty other than the tediousness of hunting rebels for a few years while you raise the province and they snowball like a bat out of hell. The hardest part of playing a nomad is not accidentally settling down while mass-razing provinces.
