I wonder if it is possible to sink troop convoys as historically done by using submarines, ...

Q: For naval invations do you need boats or do the units embark them selves?
A: You don't really control the boats during a naval invasion. You make sure you have convoys and control of the sea you need to cross and draw an invasion plan which is similar to land battle plans.

And if so i wonder how it would work: do nations just lose manpowers in the mp number at the top of the screen or can they actually lose in game units?

I think this has been confirmed. Everything that ships over seas will be on physical ships that can be engaged in naval battles.

IIRC WWW tells us you can't send troops out to sea if you don't have a set amount of naval superiority.

Now, I have no clue on what happens though if you sent them out during a fleeting moment of 'enough' naval superiority, and then get hammered by the enemy fleet.

Yes, but sure that fleet (the one with supremacy) can be intercepted? If you think somebody is launching an naval invasion, you should be able to scramble your fleet an intercept the invading forces?

Yes. for invasions you cant start it unless its pretty safe (pretty safe isnt 100% safe tho), but for regular transports there is no restrictions. Enemy fleets on raid/patrol etc will engage and sink them if there is not enough escorts to protect.

Thank you podcat :)

And how are the unit losses reflected in the game?

Do the units in the boats lose strength or is it a hit to national manpower?

The units can get wiped as i understand.

What i also don t understand is with invasions: can the units get intercepted if the invader loses naval superiority during the naval invasion transport? (Same question as herr rosseland)

@podcat So that means we cannot assign escorts for troop transports between friendly ports IE Bristol to Singapore and therefore if we have some precious cargo such as Marines or LARM units on a convoy there they are open to attack unless we keep each Sea zone they go through filled with ships (Moving a fleet from sea zone to sea zone with the convoy with the setting Convoy Escort?). Or is there a way to select a fleet and click on the transports to have them escort them?

I remember reading somewhere that you could assign warships to convoys in order to bolster the escort...

It is loosely mentioned in the Amphibious Invasion DD but by Podcats description it could be taken as just assigning more fleet units to the invasion zone instead of actually assigning them to the transports themselves so I'd just like some clarity as I would assume if you can assign them to an invasion fleet than you could also assign them to troop transports but there remains ambiguity as it's written in the DD.

Aye, the question's been asked a few times and we haven't had a clear answer (and I have a vague feeling the answers we did get point towards convoys not having escorts). Or my brain's thrown a shoe, one of the two :). It's on my "watchlist of things that might need sorting" from a naval mod perspective, although I'd very happily remove it if it was sorted in the vanilla game.

I can just here the outcry now in MP games if someone doesn't keep a fleet following their transports full of the Singapore Defense Force by a sortied Japanese Combined Fleet. "JAPAN sunk all my bloody Troops!!!". Time will tell, counting down to D-day. Can't wait to see the Mosquito, BF-109, P-38 and few other new comers to this year's WW2 Weekend before the game releases, this is going to be an Epic year for me with seeing those just prior to the launch of HOI4.

Does this include the manpower earmarked for reinfoircements?
