Sometimes my roads can be less than perfectly formed and I can end up with one zebra crossing (striped patterns where people cross the road) after another on the road, and this can really mess up my traffic flow.

Is there a "rubber" to erase any crossings I may think are unnecessary?

With the upcoming mod Traffic Management you can set the traffic lights individually, so you can make a green flow of lights, setting them all on green one after the other. This should help a lot. I have to see whether you can set traffic lights on the smaller roads, but it works for the traffic lights at avenue's and sorts.

I think you have the wrong tread bro.
Yes, the mod is awesome. But it has nothing to do with this.

If you have a crossing where many cars want to go from south to west, they not only have to wait the traffic from the North, but also People crossing. This makes the placing of Bus-Stops or even worse Metro Lines at a crossing a VERY bad idea, since your left-Turners are killing the flow on green.

So +1 for this!

Do cims cross the road without a zebra crossing?

If this is part of the simulation and you need a zebra crossing for Cims to cross the road, then by not having them created automatically could cause issues. On the other hand, it could be a boon, as you'd in theory put a zebra crossing by a bus stop or school or service building so they can cross there.

Need to be careful with the amount of micromanagement... or have a Distant Worlds style policy system where it can be automated or manual or somewhere inbetween.

On normal streets there won't be a differences (unless you can add traffic lights to a crossing), but on avenue's and bigger it makes a difference, in those situations you can switch the pedestrian lights to red when the busy directions have green and when you give green to the direction that have almost no traffic (if there is) then you can also give green lights to the pedestrians, in that way your busy roads should have almost no problem with the pedestrians. I do agree that getting rid of pedestrian crossing all together would be better, but that doesn't mean that this mod wouldn't help.

I have noticed that pedestrians only seem to cross the road at zebra crossings so it would be a good idea to be able to have a function that will add or remove them. I know we can build pedestrian walkways over roads but in many cases that just overkill.

This does not have a crossing at all (highway) and I have watched other places where peds do not use crosswalks, so iono. I will see if I can find another example.

It would also be nice of course to create one where you want it. I had a metro station on the edge of town that nobody used, and it took forever to realize that it was because there was no pedestrian crossing.

Trying to find the location of ingame screenshots...
I made a series showing how to do that.
