I believe this is a known bug.
You can mod up the research rate and it plays better. Look for defines.txt; look for # _MDF_CITIZEN_TO_RP_ and change it to about 2.5.
From your response methinks you misunderstood.
I don't have a problem with my particular research rate or how it progresses in the game. I have a big problem when 1 nation (in this case 2 listed because of main / rebel) having 6x to 7x the research levels of every other nation.
This wasn't another "my research isn't fast enough" thread. Sorry if I mislead anyone as it wasn't intentional.
Edit: BTW v1.1 and Egypt is no bigger / smaller than it's starting point in the earliest scenario (IE - they didn't occupy the map and get a ton of research.) In fact - they were no better / worse than any other nation the last time I checked (and I probably have saves from there as well if needed.)
Edit take 2: Yep. 10 years earlier and Egypt has all 15's (no rebels.) 40 years earlier and they have all 1's. An alien race must have landed on the great pyramid and handed over some upgraded tech.
Edit take 3: If I had to hazard a guess it looks like rebels are given an arbitrary tech boost when they are created and if the rebels win the fight it stays. Also if I had to hazard a guess the new rebel tech is 1.5x it's base nation's tech level. (15 / 22)
