Would anyone know anything about the sales figures for Paradox titles? Not only the amount of pre-ordered CEs for Rome , but I'm also curious to the amount of copies they sold boxed or digitally of all their other titles. Can anyone enlighten me or perhaps provide a link to some Pdox sales data?

Paradox marketing work is remarkable if customers are worried about their sales being too low...

I don't get it actually. I hated HoI2, I loved Vicky...

What's so good in HoI2 so many people love it?

Yeap, Vic isn´t easy to grasp. I still give it a try from time to time. Not many strategy games about that interesting period of time (Imperialism is the only other one I know of).

If you have to ask, you wont get the answer! Probably the same reason Vicky never appealed to me and still sits on my shelf after about 1/2 dozen games. HoI and all the expansion on the other hand have given me 1000+ hrs of enjoyment over three years and if a third game is made Ill be getting that.

Having said that though, if Victoria II came out Id like to think Id give it a look because I do like some aspects of that time period.

Victoria is the only Pdox game I disliked. I just think it was cumbersome and boring and had nothing even remotely appealing.

All the other titles where great.

I didn't want to know sales figures because I'm scared of them going bankrupt any time soon, but more because I have a general interest in the turnover and profit of gaming companies. But the consensus would be that Paradox never boasts about numbers sold nor do they release any financial information?

I hated vicky at first.. but as I started getting used to it, it becomes one of my favorite games of all time. Right up there with Suikoden 2, Football Manager Series and Crusader Kings.

You cannot imagine how much pleasure running a country with the biggest Clothing factory in the whole world gives me.

Vicky, now that was a horrible first impression. It was just my love for the period that kept me coming back, and well now I consider it the best game ever made. Complexity can be very intimidating, but once you have mastered it it can even add to the fun.

It would be very sad if Paradox went out of business, as we really do love their games.

HoI2 is probably the most polished Paradox game (after patches, of course) with the cleanest gameplay and least amount of pointless features or annoyances. It also has (by far) the best combat engine of any Paradox game ever.

On the other hand, Vicky is extremely complex and deep, and covers a time period that few seem to find interesting. That doesn't prevent Vicky from being my favorite Paradox game, though, and I think a Vicky 2 could have as much success as the other Paradox games if it just had a relatively competent AI for controlling the minutia of the players nation.

This sums up my experience also. I came to the forums looking for hints for Vicky and then after year or two lurking I finally signed up. And Vicky is still to me the best Paradox game even though HoI2 is more polished.

I prefer HoI series myself. Here are some of HoI's advantages over Vicky:
1. Better theme: WW2 appeals to more crowd
2. No non-sense peace term: get all of the strategic points then boom - everything is annexed.
3. Simple: compared to Victoria it is much simpler.
4. Cleaner interface: just to split a pop in Victoria requires so many clicks, it's unbelievable.

The good news is that Rome has 1 and 3, and to some extent 4. So I am predicting good sales for Rome.
