I know that paradox reduced the amout of ranks for simplicity sake, but it really is detrimental to the emersion factor.

How hard could it be to correctly name the ranks of the Majors at least?

All that need to be changes is a reference file.

i.e.:

RANK = 2
NATIONALITY = USA
TYPE = NAVAL

Equals Vice Admiral instead of Lt. General.

or

RANK = 2
NATIONALITY = GERMAN
TYPE = ARMY

Equals Generalleutnant instead of Lt. General

It doesn’t appear to be that hard and would greatly enhance the emersion factor.

So please Paradox, think about adding it into a patch.

1) There are separate naval and air tiels so ur first example isn't really any good as that's what he is caleld in the game.

2) IMO it doesn't add much for the work required.

Yes they had SS Hauptbahnführer and stuff like that but that was not regular army

And more important. SS isn´t a part of the game...

Yes indeed, they had some... The Germans had, for the regular army Generalmajor (same in USA), Generalleutnant (same in USA), General der Infanterie/Panzer/Birgsjäger/Kavalerie/Artillerie/... (not in the USA), Generaloberst (equals American general) and last Generalfeldmarschall (equals General of the Army)

The ranks were made generic, e.g. same ranks for all countries, for simplicity's sake.

They were also racist bigots who were instermental in the systimatic murder of 12 million people; The SS isn't representied beacuse they come too close to the Holocaust for the producers to feel comfortable(this is just my guess, but I think it's a good one). I personally think that the exclution of SS units does go slightly overboard regarding the elimination of swastikas and extermination camps and such, but being a humble gamer who has only recently begun to fallow the development of this game, it's not my dission to make. I'm sure that elite SS units could be 'subsituted' with panser divisions that are just really well equiped and trained.

As for the rank thing, well I only speak english, and personally I think it'd be a pain in the ass to have to contantly remind myself what rank corrisponds to which. The fact that thier is not a one to one corsispondance simply exsasperate things. Also, being American, and thus carrying the automatic assumption that anything done by Americans is supirior to anything done anywhere else ;) I do hope that the game uses the ranks employed by the armed forces of the good old USA! :p

You're correct, but this isn't a good issue to discuss here... better leave it alone.

No doubt. I can only imagine some of the ranks presented in the Chinese and Japanese armed forces. ;)

I would LOVE a patch to correct this, though then the issue becomes one of how far down the languages track does one go? I, for example, would not mind seeing German ranks in German, but would want all the other ranks in English and as closely approximated as possible ;) Failing that, I think it'd really be better to at least have ranks specific to the nations involved, since this is supposed to be an (semi) historical game.

If none of this shows up in a patch, though, will we be able to modify the ranks? I know Paradox has been wonderful about making their games accessible and assume they'll continue the tradition with HoI :)

Without wanting to get into a too detailed discussion I would say that elite units do exist in the game. They are created on the basis of (1) leadership, (2) equipment, and (3) experience. I would suggest that the exclusion of the Waffen-SS is primarily because those units do not materially impact a grand strategy simulation. Soviet Guards units, which were far more common and had significantly greater abilities beyond their non-elite counterparts, are similarly not "created" as such. While there might have been a minor bonus in political correctness for this omission, I think the main reason is that such designations would add little to the mechanics of the game. In fact, I would suggest that nothing was omitted from the game that would have any material impact from a grand strategy viewpoint.
