Hello,

I own CK 2 and EU IV and loved CK2 instantly where as EU IV was a more gradual process.

I'm also a wargamer, usually prefer turn based or WEGO and tactical scale. The only other Grand Strat game I've owned and really enjoyed was WW1 Gold a reason for that though is that I'm obsessed with WW1.

So I usually stay clear of Grand Strat wargames but because I'm starting to really enjoy EUIV my attention is turning to HOI. I remember an outcry when first released that it was no good, though it seems to have come good.

Anyway would you recommend the game to abit of a Grog who normally shies away from Grand Strat games but is enjoying EUIV?

Thanks (Some may know me as Wodin from other forums)

Whoops just realised this is an in development game..so I was actually referencing HOI3:)

HOI3 is the grandest of all the grand strategy games It has a very steep learning curve. You will have to put a lot of hours into it to master it. But once you have done that its a great game to play. Compared to EUIV its more complex, more strategically challenging and a lot more interesting.
Hopefully HOI4 will keep all these attributes but be more user friendly.

In some way yes, it is possible.
All nations have premade build plans some more detailed then others.
You can assign the production to the AI and it will build units according to those plans.

Do note that those plans are not always what you think you want to build.

So they are removing micromanagement on unit control but they add it on production, even though they want to reduce it in "boring" areas.
They really thought this through I see...
They are not removing micromanagement on units. You can still control your units like you use to in HoI3, except there will not be any full out AI control. You will have a choice of managing your units without the use of the battle planner or you can draw up your plans with the help of the battle planner. Each of the options have its own advantages and disadvantages depending on your play style.

I hope that Paradox has learned from the debacle that was HOI3 launch and ensure that that kind of thing doesn't happen again so that when HOI4 launches it is an actual working game and no an unplayable Alpha version like HOI3 which is only marginally playable now on systems that are able to play EU3 which HOI3's engine is based on.

I also hope that Paradox doesn't get over ambitious with it, which was one of the main reasons for HOI3's downfall.

I look forward to see what Paradox comes up with for HOI4.

I actually play HOI3 with the Dies Irae mod, and enjoy it immensely, but that takes a number of the update/dlcs to work as well as it does. That said, the 'automated' unit control basically is still broken, as AI controlled groups simply don't behave either reliably or simply sit there... You will ultimately probably control most items yourself if you are needing coordinated actions or in a tight situation. Production automation in HOI3 is 'ok', although as an econ guy, I pretty much can't stand watching it. :)

The current plans as so far revealed are likely to do a better job of allowing a minimizing of having to control your units yourself (insofar as at least they won't simply sit there if ordered to be on the offensive), and the simplification of the production process will probably help the situation more than hurt it as you would end up tweaking IC sliders every hour anyway automated or not in HOI3.

There is still a lot to be seen with the HOI4 DDs, but for me, without Dies Irae and the patch to make some of the later DLCs usable with Dies Irae, I would skip III wait for IV. Now, that said, I will miss those games I played with trying to stockpile resources from '36 to '39, but I am willing to give the new title a shot. Note that the Dies Irae mod is an officially sanctioned mod but has its problems and will not work properly with all dlcs and updates. It also is only made to play as Germany, although IMO well worth the issues to get that experience.

This is all to say, yes. Get it, but DO be aware there are issues with that game, and there are incredibly dull sections of micromanagement because the automated systems either do not work properly or at all depending on the situation you may find yourself in. It can be rather mind-numbingly repetitive AND complex depending on what you are trying to accomplish, but sadly this is not to say it can't be addictive. I certainly _am_ addicted no matter how much it is evident the game could be greatly improved. :)

Try hoi2 or derivates, just a suggestion since taste differs O:)
