Here's an idea that's been on my mind ever since I read that developer diary that talked about all unit stats being finely scaled instead of the more abrupt model approach of Hearts Of Iron 2. There's been a lot of talk out there that the new system would lead to the abandonment of named models, since obviously you cannot define a name for every single combination of armor/firepower/speed/etc.
But you wouldn't have to. It would be enough to have an excel file that defined 'historical' models as, for example, (GER|ARM|ARMOR 3|SOFTATK 3|HARDATK 1|ENGINE 2)= 'Pzkpfw IIIa' or whatever (I just pulled those specifications out of my ass, but that's not the point anyway!). And the player could always name ahistorical models as they wished, or rename historical ones.
Has anyone played Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri? It didn't have the pre-defined models of Civilization either, but you could still name them.
