Zanzibar

Fritz:

Still in process of besieging Zanzibar; I may try a full out assault in the next day or two. I am allied to the Venetians who have kept the Algerians in check - try to build up your forces as you can afford them. If need be, you can hope for a white peace with the Algerians; I managed to beat them off of Morocco due to superior artillery and the Venetians, who gave us a bit of an edge. After a severe beating, I was able to buy them off. Now to get Zanzibar, although I may need more troops from Table to finish the job....

Looks like you guys are doing better than i outside of iberia... however i wouldnt dream of attacking spain mid to late game... i was lucky, in part, to weaken them considerably early game... this has been at the expense of conquering the north african coastline...

I'll have to try a new AAR sometime where i leave spain alone... attacking morocco though is not wise for me right now :)

Portugal

Baston and Fritz:

Still plugging away with the Portuguese; managed to get a white peace and resume colonization efforts; I have established colonies on the west coast of South America and the east coast of India; it's about 1570. I seem to be running out of conquistadors and explorers, however.
Colonization is the way to go playing the Portuguese; my income is up considerably, and I have upgraded a boatload of colonies, cities with chief judges and fortresses. My Indian colony has just opened a COT (over 1000!) and I have maintained a healthy monopoly so far. I currently have more cash than common sense.
I am starting to go on the offensive diplomatically (Spain is an ally once again) and am slowly building up troops. I am trying to stay out of as many conflicts as possible in order to maximize my growth....will write once everything stabilizes....

It seems to me you are playing the traditional way to play portuguese and kicking ass too... i have found since concentrating on the iberian peninsula my colonial empire is almost non-existant. Although rich i am not wealthy beyond me dreams... :D Ah well - next post coming up soon. I'd like to see your AAR by the way...

Upcoming AAR

Baston:

Will post AAR shortly; it's definitely different, but the one thing I really enjoy about Europa is there's no wrong way to play it (unless the computer totally devastates you...)
Look for the first part of the AAR later in the week; it should get us close to 1600....
BTW, enjoyed the Savoy AAR, you are playing quite aggressively....
I wish my troops performed that well in the field....

My dent into spain... hope the link works. Not overly impressive but it shows how tough portugal can be to world power like spain.
