Portugal had a military coup d'etat in 1926, that in 1933 turned to a more fascistic dictatorship by Salazar. During WW2 Portugal helped both sides. It helped the Axis with food and clothes and other smiliar stuff. Portugal still had the old alliance with the UK ( still has ), the Azores air base became a fuel station for the Americans and other allies. Lisbon was known as "The Capital of Espionage" as many spies from both sides were there, (James Bond was invented in Portugal). Many kings also fled to Lisbon.

With all this said, is there a possiblity of playing "double"? As not only Portugal did this, but many occupied countries did too.

I suppose Portugal could remain neutral and trade with both sides, increasing their IC and build up their country.
Until Espionage gets some love, I don't think there's much else.

I've never played HOI before, although it's appeal grows on me. From the World War Wednesday footage i've seem leads me to believe there is no way so far to replicate Portugal's historical stance in WW2. I mean, apart from event chains, how would you do it?

I think the only possible way is the way VoodooEconomist said:
I'd say if the espionage system is expanded upon in a future DLC that might be the case. If I'm not mistaken, currently it's all rather passive (encryption vs decryption) or all-out coup support.

Or special idea tree, but that wont happen for such a minor nation, although it could be cool. Maybe in a "Iberian" DLC in the future :D
