Just... What... How...

I mean both Portuguese income and QING

QING

QING!!!

Qing/Ming specifically is really screwed by Trade. Their Capital is at the top of the trade stream and the trade stream splits several times. Unless China westernizes and gets Trade Companies they will never see a single ducat from the anything but the Beijing trade node and perhaps a small trickle from Japan/Manchuria.

Something is wrong with 1.8 patch. As Great Britain I am flowing with cash. Even at start of the game I had no trouble hiring dozens of mercenary regiments & still making huge money. They need to nerf end nodes & trade income a bit, added provinces have made cash too easy to get your hands on.

It's the Cape that you really need to focus on.

Control of the Cape means control of India/Asia trade. If you're in the RotW on that side, you need to go get it. If Portugal gets it, as seen in the screenshots, then they will soak the trade right out of there.

In my Malaya game, I went and took the Cape, then had to war Europe a few times to wipe out their trade fleets. 50 heavies is enough.

They were earning 400 something from trade income in my game and as a result have been first in Admin rating almost all the time thanks to that monthly income

This is the only issue I have with the new trade incomes that are possible. Trade income should count separately for diplo rating. I like the new trade incomes, not necessarily how they are gained by stacking huge fleets at home nodes though. The added income creates some new dynamics in the rest of the world.

The problem I have is that it has nothing to do with trade empires. You aren't getting huge income based off of having used light ships and trade outposts as was historically. Instead it is just patrolling your own node and creating a vacuum. Trade routes were driving factors in the expansion of European empires.

Uggg, because France has swallowed a good part of England and Spain now, Portugal is getting richer and Holland has suddenly become rich.

They have something like 10k trade power in Sevilla alone, and every single one of those little islands around the world that they colonized have fully built up trade buildings :(

Time to remove bacalhau? Portugal proper isn't that big, and if you can remove them from the Seville trade region, their hold on world trade will be permanently shattered.

For a 'nation' to benefit from trade maybe it should be from a tax on overall trade. As we see in the world today you can have very rich 'merchants' while the nation itself can remain relatively poor. Being able to raise or lower import/export levies for admin power?

It would still be beneficial to draw as much trade as possible for you'd still be receiving increasing revenue but also denying revenue to other nations.

To offset the loss of actual hard cash perhaps total trade income level could give a boost to prestige or incorporate into power projection. Maybe have a new Wealth projection total that gives you extra Diplomats etc.

Just random thoughts.

Lol, developpers wanted to emulate their Golden Age but never scripted events about declining like they did, so here is the result.
The funny thing is that if you start a game in 1560 (two decades before their decline), it's way weaker than the historic one.
Instead of adding tons of modifiers, they should consider making Indian trade much more relevant for western countries, so Portugal will become very rich before other europeans, but they'd loose a big part of the cake when they are joined by others.

The more trade income into your country should affect inflation. you could divide trade income by the base tax value of all the provinces you own to calculate a modifier on inflation.

I do not agree with this. This is not how inflation works. Remember, they are not just bringing money home, its the goods that they sell for the money of people.

If you've got more money coming in but production doesn't match it you get inflation.

So instead of using base tax it should be divided by production. So to reduce inflation you should spend money improving production with Farm estates etc.

Base tax was just a quick brain storm so thanks for making me rethink it. I just assume as I'm not a game developer it doesn't matter too much what I say ;p

Portugal also colonizes far above their weight. They colonize like 4 CNs, have 4+ trade companies, and take over the moluccas. There really needs to be a push back on small countries that have such a significant overseas empire. Managing it has to become expensive. France still doesn't colonize nearly to the extent they did, and Portugal goes like 5x harder than history.

Cape/Gold Coast shouldn't be CoTs waiting to be colonized, and colonial conquest shouldn't apply to africans. Portugal grabs Cape 99% of the time, Benin 75% of the time, and Gold Coast maybe 25% of the time.
