Fish portraits are a big omission. There's a real lack of sharkpeople and catfishmen in Stellaris. Also, jellyfish.

Not terribly sure where they'd fit in amongst the phenotypes, though. Personally, I'd love the arthropoids to be expanded more. Crab people, scorpion people, spider people, etc. Get wild with eyes, arms and stingers.

I think that while base game should stick to "weird alien look", with DLC you should focus on looks that you cant put in base game. Not everyone will like all of them but point is that everyone can take what they want. Not everyone will always have serious playthroughs.

-Fantasy races(elves, dwarves, orcs, goblins etc)
-Animals(cats, dogs, bears, dolphins etc)
-Mythological creatures(dragons, gorgons, harpies, unicorns etc)
-Anime humans(human diversity anime style)
-Races from various science fiction franchises(star trek, star wars, alien vs predator and numerous others)

I would like to se more Insect like species,,,,curent ones look odly "humane" I mean you have just few of them that resembel anything we saw on move "Space Marines"

who else would go to low tech planets and butt probe young civilisations!

also, a species of Donald trumps hair, which attaches itself to a host and takes over their brain making them say crazy stuff and do crazy things.

Thinking on the strangeness that I'd be interested in seeing, when I say strangeness, I mean strangeness. Totally off the wall originality. Think like Dark Souls!:

I think versions of the existing species that cover different biomes.

e.g. flying mammals (bats) (I know there is one with wings, but it's super weird!)
aquatic birds
more "explicitly" acquatic reptiles (like a turtle)

The idea being to challenge a bit what an avian or a mammal implies. There are birds that run, swim, or fly. There are mammals that do all those things too. The only one that doesn't cover all 3 is reptiles (are there flying reptiles)?

Definitely like the idea of less humanoid mammal portraits, and I like the idea of more hulking kinds of aliens (I love the existing snapping turtle and giant beetle men).

I'd like to see something resembling the God Emperor of Dune. Not entirely like him though. It would be nice if this species had unchanging outer shell and the inner part resembling your starting species (if it is possible, of course. Otherwise it can resemble human so players will still feel uneasy) which opens in a greeting gesture when you go into diplomacy screen.

Space elves. Space centaurs. Space unicorns. Blue / green space babes.
Space sheep. Space hedgehogs. Space pigs. Space giraffes. Space lions. Space tigers.
Space hummingbirds. In fact any (space) birds at all that show their wings, rather than humanoid appearance.
Space triceratops. Space stegosaurus. Space pachycephalosaurus. Basically lots of space dinosaurs.
Space fish. Space dolphins. Space whales. Space lobsters. Space seahorses.

That should keep you going.

Shelled molluscoids (think snails, ammonites etc.) is something I think you could get really creative with.

Also corrals, starfish and jellyfish. Although they do not technocally fit in any of the existing phenotypes.

You know what would be cool? A non-scary arachnid. An evolved Jumping Spider species for example.
