Portrait change on reload

Have been playing with a custom dynasty of Mandé descent in Mali. I have played 2 sessions in this game for about 51 years worth of game-time. My dynasty are all of African descent, my current ruler converted to Persian culture via event during his education (he was in a regency as an under-age ruler), his portarit was still accurately of an african male when I saved and quit. Now on reload his portrait has changed to a persian male, all other stats are fine, just he IS NOT Persian he's an African of Persian culture! Aarrgghh...

Am making a wild guess that this is a bug. I only have a before screenshot showing his culture - in every old save his portrait has now changed to a persian one, including the one of him as a child.

EDIT: now on loading the game I get an instant game-over telling me I can't continue as I am a Muslim (despite playing as a Shia from the start) - I have all the DLCs and expansions.

Update:

I believe that somehow the client was not loading all the DLCs causing the save to fail.

After multiple restarts it sprung into life and is now working as normal. I have no idea why as it was reporting the DLCs as loaded (the two icons are present on the load screen in the bottom left) each time, but on the sixth or seventh restart it worked. Hmmm...
