I think will be faster for the test, to put three cities with equal gold production, and set three different city population's for them. Well two, will be ok, but I'll take three to be sure.

You don't have to test : population has an impact on gold production. ;)

Also isn't there something about once this disappearing once the city gets to a certain level? Not sure on this.

I disappears a bit for every 1000 population you add, and always completely vanishes at 5000 population (another reason to keep those natives around)
