I'm playing as the Uk and in 1875 my population is through the roof (245 million+) Most of this population is unfortunately in India especially Bangladesh.
Is there any way to manipulate my populations to discourage growth in India while encouraging growth in the British Isles?

Population growth is coded in the exe. Best you can do is edit the saves and reduce the pops. Or code in your own events to give 10 militancy to the Indians...
Then send in the Red Coats with machine guns, remember for every one there's 300 million to go:) :rofl:

How do I edit the population within the save game file?

Ok...

Step 1: Press F12 while playing the game and type in 'showid' to show the provinces id #.

2: Write down the id's of the provinces you want to change the population in.

3: Go into the save game file a search this province id (Ctrl + F). Make sure it is says "province = { id = (the province id)"

4: You'll then see a bunch of pops after that. It should look something like this:

Example
province = {
id = 338
railroad_level = 3
life_sustainability = 40
pop = {
id = 1199
culture = "north_german"
workforce = aristocrats
religion = protestant
ideology = conservative
dominant_issue = protectionism
secondary_issue = pacifism
militancy = 0.000
consciousness = 10.000
size = 0.039
cash = 2330.540
}
pop = {
id = 1200
culture = "north_german"
workforce = officers
religion = protestant
ideology = conservative
dominant_issue = pacifism
secondary_issue = protectionism
militancy = 0.000
consciousness = 10.000
size = 0.039
cash = 0.000
issue_reset = 5400
}
pop = {
id = 1201
culture = "north_german"
workforce = clergymen
religion = protestant
ideology = conservative
dominant_issue = pro_military
secondary_issue = protectionism
militancy = 0.000
consciousness = 10.000
size = 0.011
cash = 91.912
}
pop = {
id = 1202
culture = "north_german"
workforce = capitalists
religion = protestant
ideology = liberal
dominant_issue = protectionism
secondary_issue = limited_citizenship
militancy = 0.000
consciousness = 10.000
size = 0.025
cash = 723.271
}

5: Change the size the pop by increasing the number after 'size ='

6: Save it and start the game!

*Note: Always make a back-up file

Since the Indian POPs are both non-national and in a colony, they get less income, so if you set your poor taxes high enough, they will starve, while your British ones won't.

No, population growth really isn't hard coded in the exe. Every country has their own population growth modifier and province life ratings have effect on population growth in provinces.

You can edit province.csv file in notepad to change life ratings and pop_growth_mod value in country spesific inc file to change pop growth in a whole country. Of course you should backup your files before changing anything.

Thanks for the help I will use both of those techniques... My population in Bangladesh is almost 3/4s of what it is today... I cant have that:eek:

I've been playing a game as Austria in which my population is about 300 million in 1920 :eek:

Granted, I conquered Germany, Belgium and some of Italy, but still...

And note, I've been playing with unexpandable RGOs.

Of course those things I proposed only have effect on new campaigns. You can't change pop growth of ongoing game this way.

You can, by editing the saved game or by making events specifically for that.

Can't you just lower the life sustainability in bangladesh to have it be massively low?
