I have science bonus pops but I don't seem to be able to get them to take science jobs. If they're already in a job I don't see a way to get them moved to a job that's better suited to them.

Is there a mechanic to do this that I've missed?

It's a bit of a hassle, but you can close ban jobs that your scientist POPs have to try and force them into the researcher jobs, then re-enable them to get other POPs in there.

I did have a scan around to see if this had already been brought up, conscious of duplication.

Glad it's not just me then. I'm sat here looking at a half dozen pops in the wrong jobs and I just couldn't see a way to get them reallocated. Seems very silly to me and a definite step backwards if there genuinely is no way to allocate pops to jobs.

Yes, I tried that with some success. It gets very 'messy' when you have multiple specialist pops not in the correct jobs. This just isn't practical.

The new system doesn't support micro like this. The days of perfectly designing each and every pop for each and every job are mostly over. You should either accept that a species is only going to make use of their traits part of the time or use generic traits that apply to everything.

There is some space to do this kind of specialization, but you have to do it on a planet level. If you dedicate a world mostly to mining, you can gene mod that whole population to have bonuses to minerals and even control growth so that the right pops grow. Both of these systems work well on a planet level. But optimizing on the pop level isn't something you're supposed to do anymore.
