Hello!

I have created this simple tool - it may be helpful for all those nice people here, doing a lot of mods :p

Below you can see how does it look:

I guess that from all you can see above, you know how it works. It's very simple program, but I think it may be helpful as editing all those csv files without knowing what else is in a province, and trying to find all those province id's can be a nightmare, so...

The only drawback is that the output of the program is a single, big csv file with all the pops. Of course you can edit one file at a time, but I guess it's better to merge all small pop files into one and edit them with POPEdit.

WARNING! Give it a try but always backup your files. When all bugs will be detected and removed it may be not necessary but as of now the program is not so heavily tested.

Of course I'm not responsible for any harm it may do to you, your computer or anything - I'm sure you know the rules. :D

I just finished dowloading the program but everytime I try to open it the following message appears:

Can't find \config\province_names.csv!
Write Victoria path in popedit.ini

What does this mean and how do I solve the problem? :confused:

It means that it cannot read Victoria path from the Registry (looks in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Paradox Entertainment\Victoria) and you have to supply it manually.

Please create a file "popmod.ini" in the popmod directory and put the path to Victoria inside (with no other text). For example:

[FILE]
c:\games\victoria
[/FILE]

It reads areas and provinces from province_names.csv and province.csv - the files that are in Victoria directory. And if these files contain other data than original - it's no problem as long as the file format is the same.

I think it can't be made because countries are defined in scenario files and it would have to parse entire scenario file to know which province belongs to which country... And it is quite difficult.

But how does the revolt.txt correspond to data in scenario file (ownedprovinces/controlledprovinces/nationalprovinces)? I thought it's just a list of "core" provinces for a country, not the same as in a scenario...

Basically the revolt.txt are the CORES from each country.

If that would be enough for your needs I could think of it. But parsing entire scenario file is not possible. It would take a lot of time to write and I have very little now :( But revolt.txt is another matter.

But parsing the scenario.eug and the revolt.txt won't be the same? The scenario.eug would be more acurate than the revolt.txt.

But if you don't have much time, it's ok. If it takes more time to be better, it' ok.

Scenario.eug is more complicated - more data to parse, file including must be handled - this is no the case with revolt.txt. If I would do a complete scenario file parsing it would mean I should write complete Victoria editor :) as otherwise a lot of work would be wasted just to get provinces for a country...

Sorry for being long off line. If you can't start popedit because it cannot find the path to Victoria please do the following:

1) open Notepad
2) put the path to Victoria inside the blank file eg. "c:\games\victoria"
3) save the file under the name "popmod.ini" (use " as otherwise it will end as popmod.ini.txt) in PopEdit directory
4) run PopEdit, all should be fine.

I'm having a problem editing the pops, I tried editing the pops in memel and it gave me something about an integer...

I have done;


1) open Notepad
2) put the path to Victoria inside the blank file eg. "c:\games\victoria"
3) save the file under the name "popmod.ini" (use " as otherwise it will end as popmod.ini.txt) in PopEdit directory
4) run PopEdit, all should be fine.

What exactly is the PopEdit directory?
