I know Capitalist can build factories under certain econimical policy now. Is there any POP auto-promotion(peasents to craftsman and clerk) or I still have to promote them by myself?

I suppose this is just yet another area that might be considered for improvement perhaps??

Say if a POP had enough money to educate itself (and modders could easily edit this value in the necessary files so it could be tweaked - as would be inevitable), then this might be quite a smart expansion to educating/promoting POPs yourself.

I think the POP system could be revised somewhat anyway: perhaps a button to 'decommission' officers, for instance. Also, depending on the level of mobilisation, when it occurs a number of clerks and/or aristocrats and/or capitalists could convert to officers for the new larger army??? Upon demobilisation these new generic leaders created would be no longer required?? When mobilisation occurred in real life, a great number of the upper classes had to enlist, almost entirely ending up in the officer corps.

Perhaps also an option earlier in an event (such as the abolishment of army commission purchases in the UK) which you expel the exclusive privileges for the upper classes as officers, or indeed you don't - subsequently reducing the eligible population that could be converted to officers when mobilised. Also, demobilisation should return POPs to their previous occupations before they were mobilised.

I think victoria could be much more realistic this way. Too much Arcade in this point for me.

I have a feeling beowulf would be right though haha! :p That's why I say if it was a feature of the game, it should be able to be altered in quite an easy way, and/or players should have the ability to easily switched off if they so choose to do so (switching it on or off may be modelled by a certain policy of a government, for instance??).

It wuld not work well, because the game's ideas of when something should be done usually are not when the player does.

Exactly, just think how many hairs have been torn over glass factories. :D
I suppose it could be made to work somehow, but for me it would be absolutely essential that it could be turned off.

Or even worse, it is peacetime, but you are planning for a war say a decade down the road.

The game engine is not going to know that. And since you have your military sliders low, it must mean you don't need that many soldier POPs building up huge excesses of manpower. Would not a more rational use of those soldier POPs be as RGO workers producing more for export?

And look, you've got too many clerk POPs for the number of factories you have. Why do the economically irrational thing and have them all clerks. Would be better to keep them productive in the economy by being craftsmen.

And look at all those labourers in the various RGOs. We've got several new factories just opened, so we need to get manpower for them. But the only excess labor is in the one coal field and one sulphur mine we own. BUt we need more workers to staff the factories our capis have built. Well, you'll have to start importing sulphur and coal now.

Et cetera ad infintum. That is the biggest issue with having an auto POP convert in this version of Victoria - whatever is coded as the basis for the game engine to convert POP type X into pop type Y, there will always be players who have other ideas and who will cry bloody murder that they "can't control their own games".

So definitely if something were to be developed in the future, it would definitely have to have options to not convert certain POPs and, preferably, an on/off toggle to ensure that players who want to control the process themselves to maximize the workforce the way they see fit have that power.

How can a factory require a half million workers? :confused:
It's a bit odd to see 90% of your population being Clerks and Soldiers, especially when all my Grandparents were farmers (and were most others in this part of the coutnry)

I think one Victoria factory is a series of large factories dedicated to producing one thing.
