The year of our Lord 1515 dawned heavy with expectation. There was every reason to believe that sooner or later Kings and Princes would adopt the Lutheran "heresy" as the state religion. We took in 263d and began rebuilding our forces in the Baltic. I expected the Hanseatic League and or the Ordenstaat to turn Protestant sooner or later. We had legitimate casus belli with both and they would greatly simplify our lives by turning Protestant. Of course the unified Scandanavia of the second Kalmar Union would also inevitably turn Protestant. I could only hope that they would so turn after the Ordenstaat and the League and not put themselves in the role of the protector of their fellow Protestants. In truth I would have a long wait indded! The only noteworthy events of that year were the death of the self styled conquistador Woldwyski and the annexation of Georgia by Crimea.
By the dawn of 1516 the protestant faith still awaited the first embrace from a prince. We collected 263d in tax revenues and continued our recruitment and savings plan for a second refinery. On the 11th of january the Turks and their aliies in Triploi declared war on Hungary who was supported by her Bohemian and Bavarian allies.
In 1517 Martin Luther still eluded Papal pursuit by hiding with german Princes who remained unwilling to formally commit to him. We commisioned a new refinery in GaliciaOn April Fool's day we recieved news that the Spanish had concluded another white peace, this time with a group of far wester (or eastern?) savages styling themselves the "Incan Empire". I am truly coming to hold Spain in contempt. We also learned that our princess in Budapest had been widowed by the Balkan War. Aud went to console her and the princess was remarried on May 8th. We also succeeded in arranging a more conventional marriage with the king's nephew and a Saxon Princess which led to Saxony becoming our vassal on June 9th. On August 14th we learned that Spain had declared war on the Aztec Empire. It is truly sinful that Spain wastes so many trees making these announcements to the world.
1518 passed quietly. We collected 256d and built a new fortress for riga in Kurland. I find myself wondering if martin Luther will suffer the same fate as all other would be reformers.
In 1519 Carlos I of Spain was elected Holy Roman Emperor. he is known in Austria as Karl V but they elected him from the position of the Spanish throne which seems curious. We ordered the improvement of our fortifications in Western prussia. In July we became aware of massive corruption which led to crippling inflation. I ordered those involved in the corruption brought to justice, which was a slow process indeed. The King had to hear all cases personally and the scandal consumed far too much time. I have rarely enjoyed attending beheadings as much as I did during this scandal. these scoundrels kept us preoccupied for a year!
The year 1520 saw the Protestant cause still without any royal support anywhere though that may change thanks to the arrogant actions of the Pope, Carlos/Karl and the King of Portugal. We dared not invest any money in anything until the corruption scandal was ended which took until July. At that time we decided to establish a ministry of justice and appointed chief judges in Masovia and Lithunia (infrastucture 3). Then, On December 3 the Pope moved me to contemplate inviting Martin Luther to Poland! The Papal Nuncio informed me that the Pope had brokered the treaty Of Tordesillas which divided the world outside of Europe between Spain and Portugal. it makes no difference to Poland but the principal of the thing is infuriating! Who is the Pope to give half a world to such treacherous louts as the Spanish? I told the nuncio that I would keep that in mind the next time I heard from Martin Luther.
The year 1521 dawned cold, dreary and inauspicious. No one knew where Martin Luther was and no Prince formally embraced him. We collected 256d and appointed a chief judge for Ukraine and expected no great events for the year.... until April 19th when once again our Persian allies went on the warpath against Turkey, Triploli, and Algiers. Our allies honored the alliance again and our own declaration came the next day. On may 14 Turkey ceded Serbia to Bohemia. I suspect Bohemia will be unable to keep order there and Serbia will be a problem. On June 28th Prussia informed us that they no longer considered themselves our vassal and would make their own way in the world. We wished them luck. On the 10th of December we reviewed the military situation with the King who looked at Aud and said, "I can do it too! The thane of brain did main the sane of grain to the train of Lorraine!" He smiled at us and we told him that was quite possibly the most profound thing we had ever heard. It would be five more months before he regained his senses, five months during which we worked very hard to keep people away from him!
At the dawning of 1522 the protestant cause still awaited a prince but we were too busy in the Balkans to care.We collected 256d and appointed a a chief judge for Posen in adition to raising troops in Bessarabia. On the 8th of february we completed a siege of Bujak and moved on with a siege force to Duborodja. On Feb. 15 a small field force won a battle in Thrace and settled down to a siege. I decided that even though the siege was largely ineffective the force would block any forces coming from or going to Asia minor and let it remain. On April 26th we General Ostrogski assaulted and captured Dubrodja. Rumelia fell a short time later. I presented a peace proposal to the Turks for Dubrodja and Rumelia. They rejected it out of hand,. possibly thinking that the Persians would take Kurdistan soon and settle for that. I was outraged and ordered general Ostrogski to take his force to Thrace and assualt Contantinople forthwith and then present the same to demand to the Sultan literally on the point of his sword. On July 17 the walls of Constantinople were breached for the time in almost 70 years. General Konstantin Ostogski covered his name in glory and did exactly as I instructed. He marched into the Sultan's audience chamber, drew his sword in the Sultan's presence and held it before him saying, "Heathen you will sign this treaty with ink or your own blood. I am completely indifferent to your choice." The treaty was signed in a matter of seconds. I ordered coins to be struck commemorating the event and gave Ostrogski leave so that he might pose for the bust whcih will be on the coins. The king, now recovered, got the Sejm to designate the 17th of July as a national holiday. It will forever be known as "Konstanty Ostrogski Day". At the conclusion of this war we left the bulk of the forces spliced from the Balkans in place. I fully expect there to be another war and in this war above all I want Bulgaria and a border with Venice. I want our people to grow closer.... much closer.
